Back in about 1990 – when I was fresh out of high school – I had a decent amount of money burning a hole in my wallet. I spent it on an idea floated to me by one of my most creative filmmaker friends. He wrote and directed the script that we’ve often referred to as Austin’s SciFi-Horror SLACKER – a sort of Kentucky Fried Movie meets Amazon Women On The Moon. Our low budget short was intended as a demo reel we’d shop around as a sample of what we could do with almost no money – hoping someone would give us MORE money to produce an actually good film. It didn’t work – the film was rejected by everybody we sent it to. We never had an official public showing of it – having only small private gathering screenings with various groups from the cast. So this is an extremely rare opportunity to witness a strange anomalous artifact from the vaults of SMiles Lewis’ personal video collection. Like some mysterious VHS tape discovered in an old VCR bought at a random pawn shop. Through the haze and static of a low-res “copy-of-a-copy” videotape, one can almost make out the weird visage of many old Austin haunts now long gone.

WE NEED A NEW HOME!

Recently our landlord informed us that they are not extending an invitation to renew our lease at our current location. We had hoped to be able to stay at the current location for as long as possible, or at least another year. However, the landlord, itself a nonprofit, has also been hit hard by the pandemic and is having to make its own tough decisions and that has included not renewing leases when its tenants’ current lease terms expire; this includes another nonprofit that has been there for 20 years.

Three years ago, our current location was recommended to us by one of our email newsletter subscribers. We hope that perhaps one of you reading this now might have another good location opportunity you are aware of and that you will share it with us. We’d prefer something with its own entrance, with good parking, centrally located (but preferably in South or East Austin / south of Koenig Lane aka 2222), 800-1200 square feet for no more than about $1,200 per month total. Even better are locations with utilities included in that pricing. If you have leads on good inexpensive location options for lease, please reach out to us via email at Contact@AnomalyArchives.org or leave the information in a voicemail at (512) 842-9046.

About SMiles Lewis

SMiles Lewis has had a lifelong interest in all things anomalous. An early age proclivity at recalling his nightly dreams as well as several personal experiences with ESP, precognition and dream switching bolstered his interest in the paranormal. In 2003, SMiles founded the non-profit Anomaly Archives that serves as the lending library of the Scientific Anomaly Institute (501c3). Radio talk show host Robert Larson described Miles as a “Gonzo Alt-Media Proprietor and Informationalist.” SMiles has been streaming his ANOMALY RADIO Network since last century and podcasting since before the term existed. In his day job with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission‘s Talking Book Program he manages a Volunteer Recording Studio and audio production department and has been a consultant on two digital audio development documents for the Library of Congress‘ National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.
