Remote Viewing & UFOs

Using one mystery to try to explain another: That’s what seems to be happening in the perpetual interplay between remote viewing (RV) and unidentified aerial phenomena–popularly known as UFOs–space aliens, and everything connected to them in the popular culture. This confluence of RV and UFOs goes back almost to the beginning of remote viewing itself, and not just the notorious, but some of the most prominent and respected members of the remote viewing community have indulged. Impossible to fully capture in one evening discussion, I nonetheless introduce you to the general outlines of the controversy, sketch for you the interrelationships of some of the main figures and their claims, show you some of the more provocative and interesting results, and explain the advantages and shortfalls of employing remote viewing to ferret out the truth of extraterrestrial visitation.

About Paul H. Smith …

Paul H. Smith was recruited into Star Gate remote viewing psychic espionage program in 1983. During his seven years in that program, he studied under the legendary Hal Puthoff and Ingo Swann, served as a first-line operational remote viewer, wrote the official manual on controlled remote viewing, and taught CRV to new military remote viewer candidates.  Among his students are included now-famous remote viewers such as Lyn Buchanan, Mel Riley, and David Morehouse.  Paul has briefed and demonstrated remote viewing to senators, admirals and generals, and other senior military and government officials.  He is president and chief instructor of Remote Viewing Instructional Services, Inc., and is a founding director of the non-profit International Remote Viewing Association, of which he is president.  His book “Reading the Enemy’s Mind: Inside Star Gate – America’s Psychic Espionage Program,” was a Book Bonus Feature and Editors Choice Selection for Readers Digest.

His latest book is “The Essential Guide to Remote Viewing: The Secret Military Remote Perception Skill Anyone Can Learn.”  Paul is also co-producer of the acclaimed DVD-based  “Learn Dowsing” training course, and the “Remote Perception: Basic Operational Training” remote viewing home-study program.  He has a BA from Brigham Young University, an MS from the National Defense University (both in Middle Eastern Studies), and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin, writing on consciousness, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

DIRECTIONS to The Anomaly Archives

It’s a little tricky to find the first time, so here are the directions:

If you’re heading northwest on Research/183 from I-35, Mopac or 360, exit 183 at the Oak Knoll exit, pass through the light at Oak Knoll, and stay on the access road heading north. The next side street off the 183 access road will be Technology Blvd; do not turn on Technology. Immediately after you pass Technology, there will be a driveway on your right (the only one in that area) — Exit into that driveway. There will be a sign overhead for “Forest Plaza.” After you pull in, you’ll have no choice but to go to the left into Forest Plaza. Our building is the back left building within the complex — Suite 302. If you’re heading south on Research/183, you also exit at Oak Knoll, but take the u-turn just before you get to Oak Knoll, get over the right on the northbound access road, and prepare to make the right immediately after Technology Blvd. as in the directions above.

Questions to be explored will include:

  • What is the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience (OBE)?
  • Do the experiences overlap in any way, and how are they different?
  • How might a conceptual framework of consciousness explain what is happening during OBE’s, lucid dreams, and other psychic experiences?
  • What do lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience reveal about the nature of consciousness and the nature of reality?
  • Can most people learn to explore these states?  If so, how?
  • Are there any potential dangers in exploring lucid dreams and OBE’s?  What type of precautions should be taken?
  • What are the potential benefits of lucid dreaming and OBE for the individual, society, and humanity?

Panelists:

Katya Walter has a doctorate with an interdisciplinary emphasis from the University of Texas at Austin.  She spent five years of post-doctoral study at the Jung Institute of Zurich, and a year of post-study in China.  Dr. Walter taught in colleges and universities in the United States and abroad for 16 years before focusing on writing and lecturing.  She has published in the areas of cosmology, chaos theory, social criticism, and poetry. She has given numerous workshops on the I Ching, chaos theory, synchronicity, and dreams in the United States and Europe.

Walter is author of the Touching God’s TOE series of books. She also authored an accompanying handbook called Dream Mail designed for contemplating the deeper structure of dreams. It discusses the fractal messages that are carried in the symbolism of dreams and how to interpret dreams for daily life.

Robert Price (moderator) is a clinical psychologist with strong research and personal interests in sleep and dreaming, lucid dreaming, meditation, altered states of consciousness, human bioenergies, and the nature of reality. He believes that personal and scientific exploration of these states can greatly expand our understanding of the potential of the human mind.

While a graduate student at the University of Texas in Austin, Dr. Price managed the sleep laboratory.  During that time, he conducted sleep lab studies of REM sleep auditory biofeedback, the narrative structure of dreams, lucid dreaming, eye movement signaling techniques, and frequent nightmare experience. Price has published several articles on these subjects, including a chapter on lucid dream induction, and has presented his research at scientific conferences.  This intensive study of lucid dreaming triggered a number of extremely vivid lucid dreams that had a profound impact on Price’s view of human consciousness, dreaming, and OBE. <More…>

SMiles Lewis has had a lifelong interest in all things anomalous. An early age proclivity at recalling his nightly dreams as well as several personal experiences with ESP, precognition and dream switching bolstered his interest in the paranormal. Shortly after high-school he joined the local MUFON chapter in Austin, Texas. He would later become a MUFON State Section Director for that group as well as leader of the local UFO Experiencer Support and Study Group. A lover of books, SMiles collected over 1000 titles before founding the non-profit Anomaly Archives that serves as the lending library of the Scientific Anomaly Institute (501c3). For over twenty years he has worked with digital audio, video and other bleeding edge internet technologies. He has published his own print journal (E.L.F. Infested Spaces), edited a local paranormal newspaper (Austin Para Times), maintained a large network of websites (ELFIS.net), organized a national UFO conference (NUFOC-38), spoken to anthropologists about UFOs and parapsychology (Encounters with the Fantastic), hosted (and been a guest on) both terrestrial and webradio talk shows and has been podcasting since before the phrase existed. All these efforts and more have led radio talk show host Robert Larson to describe Miles as a “Gonzo Alt-Media Proprietor and Informationalist.” He is also the LOWFI-Texas State Bureau Chief of The League of Western Fortean Intermediatists.

SMiles’ current projects include co-hosting PsiOp-Radio with Mack White as part of the many unique shows airing daily on his ANOMALY RADIO Network.

He is active with several local non-profits which includes his service on the board of directors for the Institute for Neuroscience And Consciousness Studies (INACS) and the Scientific Anomaly Institute‘s lending library, the Anomaly Archives.

His writings can be found within the Archives of his print journal ELFIS and ANOMALY Magazine.

In his day job with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission‘s Talking Book Program he manages a Volunteer Recording Studio and audio duplication department and has been a consultant on two digital audio development documents for the Library of CongressNational Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
