That’s it for this edition of the eNews editorial.

Big Announcements Coming Soon about our Grand Re-Opening Event & Launch of our New OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog).

 . . .

On to the 2016 FLAHSBACK…

Successful anomalous events organized by and/or featuring friends and acquaintances have recently occurred across North America – sadly, I wasn’t able to attend any of them. These ranged from the Cryptozoological Dogman Symposium organized by Ken Gerhard (and featuring Nick Redfern, Lyle Blackburn and others) to the East Coast Paracon (featuring friends Greg Bishop, Paul Kimball, Aaron Gulyas, Tim Binnall, and others) and down here in Texas, the Edinburg “Out of this World” UFO Festival (organized by Noe Torres and featuring David Hatcher Childress, Nick Redfern, Ben Hansen, Lynne Kitei, and Stephen Andrasko).

Sadly, the field of UFO inquiry has lost another great seeker… Errol Bruce-Knapp. Many in the field of (what passes for) UFO “research” won’t know who he is but they should. I came to know of him through his moderation of one of the oldest and most important UFO email lists, UFO UpDates (Archives 1996-2013). You can learn more about him (including his involvement in off-shore Pirate Radio DJ years) and his important contributions facilitating communication and hosting a community of UFO truth seekers by listening to these interviews here (on the Spectrum Radio Network), and here (with fellow Canadian Paul Kimball). He hosted several terrestrial radio shows and transitioned to internet streaming and podcasting his Strange Days… Indeed(and Mind Shift) programs. I was honored to be a guest on his show back on September 11th, 2007 (MP3). Good luck finding all of his wonderful interviews of some of the best UFO researchers. Here you can listen to him talk with legendary Area-51 researcher Glen Campbell(MP3), who hosted Errol’s UFO UpDates list site (and maintains the Archives).

“It’s alive… ALIVE!!” Austin Mufon has been resurrected as MUFON-ATX.

A couple of weeks ago I was surprised to learn that the local MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) chapter had been re-launched and begun monthly meetings held way up in the furthest reaches of North West Austin. I was involved in Austin Mufon from about 1990 until 2012 when its chain of leadership was finally broken. I led the group from about 1999 – 2002.

Above: Robert Powell “shares about cases from Georgia, England, Utah, Iowa, New York, and Canada as well as information on the process of UFO investigations.”

I was excited to learn of these new monthly meetings and attended the second such meeting held on July 31st. The meetings are at 7pm on the last Sunday of each month at Palm Beach Vapors. July’s meeting featured Austinite and Mufon’s Director of Research / Founder & Leader of Mufon’s Science Review Board. Also present were Texas Mufon leaders Steve Hudgeons (Director of Investigations & former State Director of Texas) and Teresa Turner (State Director of Texas – and State Section Director). There were about a dozen attendees from around Austin and outside the Central Texas metro area. The highlight of the meeting was getting a sneak peak of Robert Powell’s upcoming presentation for the annual Mufon Symposium 2016 – Orlando, FL – August 25th-28th whose theme is “UFOs From Our Oceans to Outer Space.” Robert’s presentation is MUFON’s Top 10 UFO Cases for 2015You can watch this sneak preview thanks to another attendee I was glad to meet, Daniel Jones of the Vortexas Network, whom I’d briefly met a few months ago in Dallas at the ParaMania event.

For this installment of the Book-of-the-Week we feel it appropriate to highlight the aforementioned Robert Powell’s contribution to the printed knowledge-base of UFO history. Robert was kind enough to speak about that history to our Anomaly Archives audience in his Lecture in 2014 (Video).

. . .

Until next time…

Who is John Ford, er Frum ?  CARGO CULTure Special !

A series of recent video watching synchronicities inspired me to do another installment of our CARGO CULTure feature using some of the alien-themed videos that the YouTube-algorithm-Gods put in my path.

The John Ford / Frum references … those familiar with the story of the cargo cults on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu knowhe is “often depicted as an American World War II serviceman who will bring wealth and prosperity to the people if they follow him.”

In preparing this installment I accidentally typed Ford instead of Frum … which led me to review the case of the Long Island UFO/Alien-Believer, John Ford, who many feel has been illegally imprisoned after being framed for conspiracy to commit radiological murder. I recall first hearing about the case back in the late 1990s via the Errol Bruce Knapp’s UFO UpDates eList – he was arrested on my birthday back in 1996. Well, Mr. Ford is STILL incarcerated despite many developments of note in his case over the years. Whatever one might think about his beliefs, his case warrants our attention. You can find a wealth of information linked from our John Ford website archive.

Restore John Ford!”

Book of the Week…

More synchronicity? This past weekend as I was preparing this issue I selected a title I’d been wanting to highlight for some time as our copy is signed and addressed to the collector (Bob Girard) whose personal collection we acquired a couple of years ago (thanks to the coordination of Tom Deuley by way of the UFO Research Coalition). Well, how strange is it that the latest “Attack Against Austin” bombing occurred at Dawn Song Drive on March 18th … “On March 18, 1314, Jacques de Molay, the 23rd and final Grand Master of the Knights Templar, is burned at the stake” and coinciding the same day on the other side of the globe with a killing at the Temple Mount by a “Dawn Star”? Sometimes a coincidence is just coincidence, right?

So what is this installment’s Book-Of-The-Week? Only the Knights Templar know for sure…

Parts by Oshun (Official Video)

One of the first videos I came across when searching for artists at this year’s SXSW. I didn’t expect the Flying Saucer / Space Brotha imagery … but apparently it’s “AfroFuturism”!

Flying Saucer by Brave Combo (Fan Video)

“I don’t wanna read your book.
I don’t wanna hear your tale.
I don’t wanna see any photos you took,
or get UFO news in the mail.”

I’d heard this fantastic Texas Polka band’s classic song “Flying Saucer” quite some time ago and have seen a couple of different fan-videos – most recently the one above, suggested to me by YouTube’s algorithms. This one features a dizzying array of UFO and alien imagery from houses shaped like Flying Saucers to various photos of celebrities and movie clips pointedly referencing the lyrics.

Enjoy!

“Brave Combo is part of the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster. Support for Texas schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations may be available to assist with booking fees through the Cultural Connections Performance Support grant application.”

Milla Jovovich – “The Alien Song (For Those Who Listen)” (Live Video)

Another random video featuring an alien aspect by the YouTube’s algorithms is this unexpected treasure from one of my favorite “Old Austin” venues: Liberty Lunch circa 1994 and Austin Community Access Television’s own DaveTV.org RawTime  YouTube Channel. Until seeing this I’d forgotten that model / actress (Fifth Element, Resident Evil, The Fourth Kind, etc.) Jovovich had a musical side.

Book of the Week…

The Templars and the Assassins
The Militia of Heaven
by Jim Wasserman

From the Preface

A thousand years ago the eerie stillness of what is now the Israeli desert was shattered by the thunderous cacophony of armored horses’ hooves racing to battle. The metal to metal clash of swords and lances striking armor and shield resounded through the field. Battle cries mixed with the screams of the wounded, the blasts of trumpets, the shouted commands in many foreign tongues. Muslim battled Christian for possession of a strip of land upon which both their religions were founded. Some thousands of miles away in the mountain fastness south of the Caspian Sea in modern Iraq, a Persian adept sat wrapped in a rigid posture of meditation, while his mind’s eye gazed upon another deadly scene. One of his most trusted disciples, disguised as a Sufi mystic, had just approached the litter of the powerful Seljuk vizier. His dagger plunged into the vizier’s heart seconds before he too was struck down by the guards. Hasan-i-Sabah must have experienced a moment of relief, as the death of his sworn enemy would lessen the Turkish threat to Alamut. Fate would soon smile kindly again on the besieged Assassin community as the Seljuk Sultan himself passed away within weeks of his slain vizier.

The richness of the historical truths of the Order of Assassins and the Knights Templar intertwine inexorably with the myths that have stimulated the imagination of countless minds through the centuries. Both the Assassins and Templars were destroyed as heretics some seven hundred years ago. While the Assassins (more properly Nizari Ismailis) survive to this day under the leadership of the Aga Khan, the period of their history under discussion was obliterated by their Mongolian and Mameluke conquerors in 1256 and 1273 respectively. They were slandered by Sunni heresiologists who considered them religious criminals, and by medieval Christian historians who considered them pagan idolaters. The Templars similarly have no surviving corpus of written material, despite the probability that as a medieval religious order, they kept scrupulous records of their doings. They too were written in dark ink by historians of the same power structure that tortured and murdered them and destroyed their Order. As history is written by the victors, we make haste at the outset to state that our study focuses on the vanquished.

My initial attraction to the Assassins and Templars was based on my interest in secret societies. I have devoted most of my life to participating and sharing in the mystical aspirations embodied in a secret society that claims derivation from the mythical union between the Assassins and Templars during the Crusades. I have also made a great effort to understand the influence of associations of people whose interests are far less spiritually motivated than those just described. Associations whose concerns are the political management, read domination, of mankind.

I believe that an examination of the Assassins under Hasan-i-Sabah will reveal a deeply mystical secret society which did much to manipulate the political reality of its day in order to spread its religious teaching and establish its own political freedom in a hostile environment. The Knights Templars as a group were less sophisticated. However, the early influence of the mystical teachings of St. Bernard would have created an inner corps of initiates who sought spiritual attainment through their association with the Order, and who benefited greatly by their exposure to the wisdom they would encounter in Holy Land.

Book of the Week…

Channeling
Investigations On Receiving Information From Paranormal Sources
by Jon Klimo / Foreword by Charles T. Tart

“In this study of channeling, earlier called spirit communication or mediumship, Klimo, who teaches at Rosebridge Graduate School in the San Francisco Bay Area, writes with clarity about “the communication of information to or through a physically embodied human being from a source…on some other level or dimension of reality other than the physical as we know it.” He profiles recent channels and their sources, goes back to preliterate societies and the advent of monotheism and identifies as channels such figures as Moses, Solomon, Muhammad, Merlin, Nostradamus, Swedenborg and Edgar Cayce. He discusses the sorts of people who are channels, kinds of information channeled, sources of information channeled and varieties of channeling like clairvoyance and automatic writing. According to Klimo, few people tap into their abilities to perform channelingand for those who think they can, he serves as guide.”

Book of the Week…

The Starseed Transmissions

by Ken Carey / Raphael

The Starseed Transmissions Books
Channelled by Ken Carey
(Ken Carey returned to Spirit in January 2017)

“Ken Carey, a contemporary New Age medium and channel, was a postal worker as a young man. Frustrated, he and his family moved to a farm where they lived without most modern conveniences such as electricity, plumbing, radio, television, newspapers, and magazines. Carey apprenticed himself to an Amish farmer. At one point in the later 1970s, lying in bed with a severe cold, he felt a presence and heard a low humming he described as an energy field. Then a voice spoke to him.

During the winter of 1978-79 he channelled for 11 days. The entities that spoke through him sometimes appeared as angels (including the Archangel Raphael) or extraterrestrials. However, during the later sessions, an entity declared “I am Christ. I am coming this day through the atmosphere of your consciousness…. I am the bridegroom, spoken of old. I came to you first through the man named Jesus.”  The transcripts of these sessions were published as The Starseed Transmissions in 1982 and became an early channelled New Age classic. The popular response led to the publication of further volumes based on the channelings.

The entities who spoke through Carey emphasized the central New Age message. They had emerged in order to assist human evolution. It was time to lift the spell of matter and to bring forth a new planetary being. Humankind, Carey argued, is poised on the brink of a momentous transformation: The earth is ripe for harvest. Two resources are available to assist humans in the transformative period: the advanced intelligences, such as those channeling through Carey; and the creative power of thought. As with other New Age channellings, Carey’s emphasizes the problems of over-reliance on rational thought in problem solving and living with guilt imposed in younger years.”

H A P P Y   N E W  Y E A R !!!

We Wish You All A Happy New Year

Here’s hoping you all had a wonderful holiday season and that we all have a fantastic new year as we proceed into 2018.

Book of the Week…

The Jung Society of Austin have alerted us to Jean Shinoda Bolen’s free online webinar “Gods of Every Woman and Man” on January 24th and the chance to attend their local Round Table Discussion at Trinity Church of Austin on January 26th. The Anomaly Archives used to house the Austin Jung Society’s library at our original location within the Human Potential Center on Bert Avenue. Later their library moved into the same space that the Anomaly Archives moved into in 2009: INACS‘s “Nerve Center” MindQuarters up in North West Austin where we’ve cohabitated for the past nine years. For the past several years the Jung Society’s Nisley Lending Library has been located within the New Life Institute.

In honor of those past community collaborations I’ve chosen one of Jean Bolen’s past literary works as our Book-Of-The-Week!

Meanwhile… Welcome to Our New Location!

We’ve begun moving into our new location in the heart of Central Austin, downtown, at the corner of the north IH-35 frontage road and Lambie Street. We previously reported that our new suite number was 256, however, that is incorrect. The New Suite Number is 260!

55 North IH-35, Suite 260

Austin, Texas 78702

(MAP)

[New Location at the corner of Lambie Street
& IH35 Northbound Frontage Road.]

The move-in is still “in-process” but we’ll keep you posted about upcoming Grand-Opening / Open-House events. Monthly meetings are currently on hiatus. We hope to begin a new meeting schedule and regular lecture events soon. Anomaly Archives member John Hawkins is still leading monthly focused discussion forum meetings called, “The Third Door.” Contact John Hawkins for details.

The Tao of Psychology: Synchronicity and the Self

by Jean Shinoda Bolen

The Tao of Psychology
Synchronicity & the Self
by Jean Shinoda Bolen
Reviewed by SMiles

Jean Bolen is a Jungian analyst and psychiatrist with several wonderful books to her name. The Tao of Psychology is the perfect introduction to the parapsychology of meaning where synchronicity imbues greater significance to coincidental events in our every day lives. The book is brief and easy to read. She captures Jung’s ideas of archetypes and the collective unconscious perfectly, encouraging what she calls the Agatha Christie approach to detecting and analyzing synchronicity. She adds an important intuitive perspective by developing Jung’s thoughts as they relate to the ideas of the eastern Tao and I-Ching.

“Synchronistic events are the clues that point to the existence of an underlying connecting principle. Whenever synchronicity occurs, the visible and tangible ‘ten thousand things’ are experienced as being aspects of the one, while the invisible matrix, that inexpressible, ineffable, unseen connection; the Tao, is the great mystery.”

Coincidences become synchronicities through a process identical to Jungian dream analysis. Symbolic interpretations are drawn when the patient/experiencer feels the connection of inner feeling and outer events. “Like a Waking Dream” we can experience existence as an aboriginal dreamtime:

“The coincidental timing and symbolic quality of such events convince people of synchronicity. The coincidence is between a psychological situation and an outer accident, meeting, or event – in which the outer situation is a symbolic representation of the psychological struggle or conflict. It seems to me that synchronicity is frequent, but unless an individual has some insight into the psychological situation the symbolic coincidence is not appreciated. Like ignored dreams, they have no impact.”

Jean Bolen’s works are highly recommended. From her Goddesses in Everywoman and Gods in Everyman to Ring of Power and Crossing to Avalon. Her balanced perspectives are an asset to our future.

Holiday UFO Gifts To Unwrap…

The past two weeks have been quite a ride for folks interested in the UFO subject. The revelation of what many have suspected for a long time, that the Pentagon likely has ongoing projects investigating mysterious anomalous encounters, has ignited the media-sphere with discussion of this big UFO news. Some have known this was coming for over a year. Pop-punk icon turned paranormal media mogulTom DeLonge has been teasing such revelations for a long time and back on October 11th he made UFOlogical history with his social media streamed press teleconference launching his crowdfunded Public Benefit Corporation, To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science, that features a bevy of Deep State Intelligence Operatives on its founding board of advisors. It wasn’t until two weeks ago and the NYTimes’ media campaign’s rollout of the identity of the Pentagon’s Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, that the extent and shape of this introductory “disclosure” began to be fleshed out by various investigative journalists both within and without the UFO research community.

At the Anomaly Archives’ File/Collection pages below you can find a fantastic collection of links to news and analysis of this latest and greatest UFO Media Flap!

Some of the most important links include…

  • October 11, 2017 – Louis Elizondo goes public at To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science press teleconference with Tom DeLonge, without naming the Pentagon’s AATIP. (YouTube Archive). Transcript of broadcast: click here.

. . . Susan Lepselter, an anthropology professor at Indiana University Bloomington, pointed out that the times we live in have a lot to do with the fears that inform our thinking about UFOs — from the nuclear era to global warming.

“Our sense of precariousness is very high right now,” Lepselter tells us. “When you think about an alien or UFO, it reminds us we are all citizens of Earth.”

Strange Lights In West Texas

by James Bunnell

“Bunnell, a Texas native with 37 years in the aerospace industry, relates his investigation of the Marfa Lights, which he also chronicled in three previous books (Hunting Marfa Lights, 2009, etc.). The lights are famous throughout North America, but particularly in the Lone Star State.”

Book of the Week…

The Super Natural
A New Vision of the Unexplained
by Whitley Strieber & Jeffrey J. Kripal

From C. M. Mayo’s review…

“[i]f we, as scholars of religion, cannot take this text seriously, if we cannot interpret it in some satisfying fashion, if we cannot make some sense of this man’s honest descriptions of his traumatic, transcendent experiences, then we have no business trying to understand his spiritual ancestors in the historical record. We either put up here, or we shut up there. I decided to put up.”

Now to the Kantian cut. It is to distinguish between the appearances of things and what may actually lie behind them. In making that cut, we recognize that while our physical senses provide us with essential survival-oriented information, in no way do they even begin to convey to our consciousness awareness the totality of reality. As Kripal writes, this cut “is a very reasonable and appropriate response to our actual situation in the cosmos.” Furthermore, “Once one makes such a cut, one can, in principle, take any religious experience or mythical world seriously and sympathetically without adopting any particular interpretation of it, much as one suspends disbelief to enjoy a good novel or watch a science-fiction movie.”

In other words, we don’t need to accept nor reject Strieber’s reports of UFOs and “the visitors”— yes, we can keep the lids on our coconuts while adopting the stance of radical empiricism in considering large-scale quantum phenomena!

Put yet another way: if we can simply look at such experiences as Strieber’s, sit with them, consider them “seriously and sympathetically, without adopting any particular interpretation”—we can then, to quote Kripal again, “begin to study their  patterns, histories, narrative structures, sexual dimensions, and philosophical implications.” The Kantian cut thus gives us the power to then spiral up to a broader, richer view. It is an astonishing power.

. . .

Many people know Strieber as “that guy who wrote about being abducted by extraterrestrials.” In fact, Strieber reports his perceptions of his experiences, but as to what they actually are, he says, “I am a wanderer, lost in a forest of hypotheses.” Strieber also echoes Kripal in arguing that, “it is not necessary to believe in such things as flying saucers, aliens, ghosts, and other unexplained phenomena in order to study them.”

But to study such things without puckerlips, and all brain cells firing, one must make that Kantian cut—and one needs courage to persist, for that Kantian cut must be made again and again in the face of our inclination towards easy polarities, to either believe or, more commonly, reject, bristling with hostility or scornful laughter.

As Kripal puts it, one must “learn to live with paradox, to sit with the question.”

Book of the Week…

Edgar Cayce On Dreams
by Harmon H. Bro

“During the dreaming state of sleep, we experience the different levels of consciousness and receive input from the different realms of the spirit world. Through dreaming, we have special access to our spirit within. According to the Cayce readings, there is not a question we can ask which cannot be answered from the depths of our inner consciousness when the proper attunement is made.

A dream may be of a physical, mental, or spiritual nature and may deal with all manner of psychic manifestations. These include telepathy, clairvoyance, prophetic visions, out of body traveling, remembrance of past lives, communication with beings in other realms including deceased friends and relatives, spirit guides, angels, Christ, and even the voice of God. Dreams can also give invaluable information on the status of the body.

All subconscious minds are in contact with one another. Through the subconscious, dreams may place us in attunement with those in the physical realm or those in the spiritual realm. We may be visited in the night by discarnate entities for many reasons: they may seek to give us assurance about their well-being in other realms of existence; they may come seeking our aid through prayer; they may come to bring us information which may be very helpful or limited; or they may come to influence us with their own desires or perspectives, which may be helpful or harmful. For example, there are dream reports of deceased relatives appearing and giving instructions about where to find a will or a lost object.

The events we experience in the third-dimension are, as it were, a “past condition” because this dimension is simply a projection or a reflection of what is being built at another higher level. Therefore, when we tune into these higher levels, as we may in dreams, we become aware of what is being built, and what may be projected into the physical in the future. Nothing of importance happens to us that is not foreshadowed in our dreams. Which is not to say that all dreams are precognitive or that the exact detail of everything we experience is given earlier in dreams. However, the word “foreshadowed” suggests that we may glimpse and be warned of what we are building now which may come into manifestation later. We call these dreams “precognitive” or “prophetic.”

Just as the angels spoke to people in dreams in the times of the Bible, the spirit world still speaks to people to this day. Some people came to Cayce with dreams of Christ. None was told that it was simply his imagination, but all were assured they were indeed in touch with him.

There is no dimension of human life, whether social, financial, emotional or physical, mental or spiritual with which the dream may not on occasion deal. Dreams may encourage or reprimand, instruct or deceive, inspire or seduce, guide or confuse. The potential for an immense array of experiences in consciousness is always there. What we actually receive depends upon our attitudes, motivations, the measure of our attunement, and the extent to which we have made applicable what was received in earlier dreams and in waking experiences.

We Need Your Help!
Anomaly Archives Seeking New Location

Since 2009, the archive and lending library of the 501c3 Scientific Anomaly Institute has shared a space in North West Austin with the like-minded INACS (Institute for Neuroscience And Consciousness Studies). However, due to a variety of issues, both organizations are now actively seeking potential new locations; either jointly or independently. The lease for the current location expires at the end of January 2018.

Both the Anomaly Archives and INACS will be moving to a new location and are actively seeking new office space. One of the desired features they have been using in their search criteria is a large conference area that their partner organizations could continue to use for meetings and presentations.

Here are some of the features both organizations are seeking:

  • Single story or first floor
  • 800-1200 SF
  • Separate building entrance
  • Large conference / presentation space
  • Bathroom(s) and kitchenette area
  • 2-3 offices
  • Relatively central location

If any members of our associated groups are aware of office space available for lease that might be suitable, please pass the suggestion on to Anomaly Archives founder, SMiles Lewis and to INACS‘ Administrative Committee (Bob Price, Miles Lewis, and Lois McGee).

Thanks for your help!
