ANOMALY ARCHIVES eNEWSLETTER – Jan / Feb / March, 2006

New Hours of Operation & On-Site Volunteer

Greetings fellow Anomalists. It’s been a while since we sent out an issue of the Anomaly Archives eNewsletter. We apologize for the delay.

We’d like you to welcome our New Volunteer On-Site Assistant Curator, JP Smith. “JP“, as he likes to be called, is a producer and writer (and a founder of SONAV Productions) who recently successfully presented his play, Among The Sand And Smog, at this year’s Frontera Fest.

I was lucky enough to see the last showing at The Blue Theatre where it played to a sell out crowd. By the end of the show there wasn’t a dry eye in the packed house.

“One of the  world’s darkest secrets is hiding right next door.  Since the early 1990’s, factory workers and other  young women of the city of Juarez have been  disappearing off the streets, to be discovered later  lifeless in the desert, or sometimes not at all. Now, more than 13 years later, over 300 women have  been brutally raped and murdered, the culprits  remain at large and unknown, and a city mourns while  a nation and the world ignores it. Told in three  acts, and starring some of the finest talent in  Austin, Among the Sand and Smog is sure to move and  shock you as it explores one of this hemisphere’s  most forgotten tragedies.”

“JP” now resides on-site and can help you access the Anomaly Archives lending library Monday through Friday from 11am to 4pm plus extended hours of operation from 5 to 9 pm Tuesday nights and from 1 to 5 pm Saturday afternoons. You can also usually find the library open Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.

If you want to come by the Anomaly Archives during the weekday hours of 11 am to 4 pm you should call ahead and speak with JP at the Human Potential Center at …

(512) 441-8988 or email him.

Now to hear from JP in his own words …

To the Membership of the Anomaly Archives lending library:

I wanted to write a letter to all of the library members so I can introduce myself and let you know about where the library wants to head in the following months. My name is J. P. Smith and I am thoroughly enjoying my position as volunteer assistant curator. I also work at The Human Potential Center as the marketing and development director. My true love is writing, I have been training to be a professional writer for over 10 years, focusing mainly on theatrical and cinematic works. I run a small production company that recently participated in Fronterafest’s Long Fringe Festival, and the show I wrote, Among the Sand and Smog, sold out the Blue Theater. I hope to use my talents to help the library in as many ways as possible. One future work that I will be doing is a stage work based on the inventions and life of Nikola Tesla, a work that I would very much like to come out of my times at the library.

One thing that I wanted to talk about is the current needs of the library. We are looking to acquire some new equipment so that we can continue growing, becoming an even better center for research and development of our respective fields of interest. Here is a list of the things that we want to see added to our collection:

Bookshelves: Preferable size is about 5′ x 5′ x 1″ to match what we already have, although any size will do.

Filing Cabinets: A lot of materials we house are documents, photos, etc that do not fit well on shelves, we want to add these to our collections and house them in filing cabinets.

Magazine Holders: Similarly, we need to find a good way to store and organize the many periodicals that we have in the collections. Magazine racks and/or cardboard magazine holders would be perfect.

Labeling Materials: For labeling and categorizing the collections.

If anyone has access to these, we would very much appreciate the donations. Feel free to think “out of the box” on these as well. Miles told me that our current bookshelves were actually racks from a shoe store that went out of business, I think that is great! This type of thinking will be most crucial in the following months, as we try to grow and increase our membership of readers.

I look forward to meeting the various organizations, their leaders and members. Please feel free to contact me at my contact info below, f.y.i. email is the best.

Sincerely,

JP Smith

The present model of the universe in physics leaves much to be desired. The relationship between physical reality and mind is also a big conundrum. This talk uses a slide show to pinpoint flaws  in the current model of cosmology for physics and the current  inability of physics to account for mind.

Katya Walter, Ph.D., presents a new model of cosmology that merges mind and matter and offers a new way to view the universe. Come prepared to be stimulated, offended, delighted, and amused.

Katya Walter has an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and studied for five years at the Jung Institute in Zurich and in China for a year. She taught in colleges and universities in the United States and China for sixteen years. She has published in scientific, social, and literary analysis, African cosmology, poetry, and short fiction. Anomaly Archives eNews – July 2005

eNEWS FEATURE:

  • ROSWELL <never> AGAIN

“Popular Mechanics suspects the craft that crashed at Roswell will eventually be identified as either a U.S. attempt to re-engineer a second-generation Fugo, or a hybrid craft which uses both Fugo lifting technology and a Horten-inspired lifting body. In either case, Japanese engineers and pilots brought to the U.S. after the war to work on the project could have been the dead “alien” bodies recovered at the crash site.”

—From an Online Forum on the July1997 Popular Mechanics magazine article on Roswell 1947. <http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=364>

I’ve assembled below the initial results of a web trawling / archiving project revolving around what is by now obviously a RE-emergence of the idea that the 1947 Roswell and related crash saucers / pickled aliens mythology relates to sub-projects of the infamous Japanese Unit 731 human experimentation programs and Fugo balloons with Horton Brother inspired gliders. It appears that links began making their way onto the early internet in the mid 1990s linking the infamous Roswell crash case with the Japanese Fugo balloon theory and eventually it’s connection to the Japanese human experimentation atrocities committed under the heading of Unit 731.

The biggest irony about this re-emergence of the Fugo Roswell hypothesis is that it comes on the heels of a recent raucous debate on the UFO UpDates eList about the value of journalist John Keel‘s contribution to UFO research. Many of the field’s best known writers and researchers were lambasting Keel who has been known for quite some time as “not being afraid to invent evidence”. Yet it appears that it was he who first wrote of the possibility that the 1947 Roswell crash was in fact a Fugo balloon. John Keel wrote about this theory in the March 1990 issue of FATE magazine.

<www.fatemag.com/archives_1990.html>

Both pre-existing periodicals dealing with this nexus of data, FATE March 1990 and Popular Mechanics July 1997, are available in the Anomaly Archives periodicals collection. Below you will find reproductions on the resultant ufological debate regarding both these magazines and other resources that have been floating around since the 1990s.

NEW ROSWELL REPORT CASE SOLVED? by Bill Hamilton – 6/20/97

Newest Roswell “Story” From The Air Force !

Well known investigator Joe Stefula reports the Air Force is coming out with another version of the 1947 Roswell alien crash. The new book being released from the Government Printing Office is called, “Roswell Report Case Solved” and is authored by Captain Jim Mc Andrew, ISBN 99791156. Jim after the diligent searching of hundreds of thousands of documents has apparently found fifty year old records that point to the real cause of the crash.

Joe has obtained information that an article will be published in the July Popular Mechanics Magazine, that provides the final Air Force explanation. Our government has always denied that an extraterrestrial crash occurred at Roswell. They claim our biggest concern at the beginning of the Cold War was to determine if the Soviet Union had the atomic bomb. Key scientists from the US, Japan and Germany were brought in to develop a new reconnaissance system. Allegedly new and improved Japanese Fugo balloons were designed using advanced materials. Horton a German engineer developed a special lifting body design for a long range experimental glider that was carried aloft by the Fugo balloon.

This craft was probably a rounded triangular design or heal shaped lifting body. The glider or lifting body was carried aloft by the balloon and fitted with cameras and instruments to detect nuclear explosions. This recce unit would float over the Soviet Union gathering information. At a key point near friendly territory, the pilot would release his experimental glider aircraft from the balloon and fly to safety with its precious cargo. New and light weight metals were used that may have included foreign markings. If a small Japanese pilot was involved in the crash, we may have a plausible explanation for the description of an alien body.

And another article with reporting from Joe Stefula, this time via CNI News …

AIR FORCE TO ISSUE YET ANOTHER ROSWELL EXPLANATION
Is This One Impressive Enough to Rain on the Anniversary?

CNI News thanks Rebecca Keith, Joe Stefula and Steve Kaeser for assistance with this story, dated June 16, 1997.

Just in time to dampen spirits at the upcoming 50th Anniversary UFO bash in Roswell, rumors are rampant that the Air Force is about to issue yet another “final” explanation of what “really” happened near that fabled New Mexico town in early July, 1947. This time, if the rumors are true, the explanation could really be a bummer for UFO enthusiasts. <snip>

One set of clues can be gleaned from the cover story in the current (July) issue of “Popular Mechanics” magazine, which discusses a number of post-World War II super-secret projects involving former Nazi rocket scientists brought to work in the United States. Among these were the brothers Horten, renowned in esoteric circles for their highly exotic, but sometimes successful, aircraft designs, including variations on “flying wings,” “lifting bodies,” and even “discs.”

It has long been rumored, though never definitively proven (as far as CNI News knows), that the Hortens and their colleagues created one or more high-performance, jet-powered “saucer”-like craft in the last days of the Reich. Some saucer-conspiracy theorists have argued on this basis that the entire post-war UFO phenomenon can thus be traced to Nazi science, captured and imported by ambitious but morally bankrupt American Cold Warriors. While the “Nazi UFO” theory is regarded by most ufologists as implausible at best, it might contain a shred of truth — and that shred might have been recovered from a crash near Roswell in 1947. Or so the Air Force may be about to tell you. <snip>

“Popular Mechanics” hints that captured Japanese Fugo balloon bombs, coupled with Horten aircraft designs, could have inspired such an experimental program. Bigger, better Fugos than the Japanese deployed during the war — perhaps created with assistance from captured Japanese scientists — might have carried the theoretical reconnaissance glider aloft.

If such a device was launched from, say, White Sands (where the Mogul launches reportedly occurred) and crashed shortly after liftoff at a location north or northwest of Roswell — and if a pilot (dare we suggest a small Japanese pilot?) was in the aircraft — this could theoretically account for balloon-like wreckage, metallic wreckage, a damaged but recognizable aircraft of some kind, and at least one body.

An essential book for anyone who wants a rational guide through the UFO jungle, and a welcome reminder that not all American ufology is dominated by Roswell, which gets just four pages out of 340 – and those, in Huyghe’s characteristically undogmatic manner, are an effective demolition of John Keel’s ‘fugo balloon’ theory.

Roswell vs. Unit 731 / August 25, 1995

I happened to catch and tape a show on Dateline (NBC) last week on a subject that was disturbing not only to those interviewed but to myself. It focused on a 50 year secret held by the US government on a place called Unit 731 during WWII. Human experimentation (biological warfare, live autopsies, injections, etc.) were carried out on prisoners of war. These prisoners were British and Americans and what they described seemed parallel to that of good old Adolph. We have seen what Hitler’s prisoners looked like but do we really know to what extent these lives were interfered with?

Unit 731 was run by the Japanese and in the report the US government was accessory to the savage indignities to these innocent victims. They gave immunity to the leaders of these inhumane acts and actually hired some of them to work in the US to conduct experiments. Oh, what a Cold, Cold War indeed.

My feelings in relation to the Roswell film and Unit 731 are they are one report, there are crucial documents that have gone missing for reasons unknown, the Chinese stated they had already seen the footage from the Roswell film (when), injuries to the being on the footage are extraordinarily similar to those on the creature used in the movie – Roswell (Martin Sheen) which came out _last_ year. A weather balloon the government claimed – I think perhaps, but maybe one the Japanese had sent over carrying a possible biological threat to the US which the Dateline show reported was an ongoing event in the 40’s (termites infected with typhoid aimed at California). As Stephen Shiff stated on Larry King, the extent of military intervention leaves suspicion that this was not _just_ a weather balloon.

Russians were aiding Unit 731 also. In ‘The FBI’ (Kessler) it is noted that the Russians were in the habit of sending spy balloons over the US (made of material other than that used for normal weather balloons).

Perhaps the symbols identified on ‘wreckage of the craft’ were highly unusual to a farmer from the 40’s.

I am sure Russian and Japanese were not languages every good old down-to-earth American farmer could identify.

Also, here is a web posted “Letter to the Editor” for the Crop Watcher newsletter circa 1994 that mentions the FUGO balloon issue…

The Crop Watcher / Editor: Paul Fuller / Number 21 – 1994

Dear Paul, You mention in CW20 that skeptical UFOlogists have dismissed the “UFO” debris at Roswell as a crashed Fugo balloon from Japan. As far as is known there were 9,300 launches from November 1944 to May 1945, with 300 reaching mainland America. And that one balloon bomb had somehow stayed airborne until July 1947, while a nation-wide surge of flying saucer sightings was occurring. We are led to believe that this bomb detonated, thereby scattering its debris and there was a need to gather all this up and keep it secret.

My contention is that exactly because flying saucers were newsworthy, there existed an opportunity to launch a hoax balloon. (I presume it drifted miles away from population centres for which it was presumably targeted). Two weeks after the Arnold report, on July 8th a press release stated the discovery of a disc that landed on a ranch in Roswell region. This disc, I believe, was the faked discoidal attachment from the balloon (who’s to say how odd that material was made to appear ?). The balloon device was of sufficient interest as to be one example responsible for the disc reports. Several hours later on the same day, General Ramey held up the explanation that it was a high-altitude weather balloon with a radar reflector. It was accepted as the answer because it could, while floating silently high, reflect light in the fashion of a silvery saucer, but not sufficiently convincing to explain how a grounded one could appear as such.

Most people don’t like ambiguity; they take available information and make sense of it. People are liable to believe in unsupported assertions because of a desire to understand and simplify complicated events that follow each other with bewildering speed as did occur on July 8th 1947. Finally, by far the earliest online reference I’ve been able to dredge up is this 1991 review linking the 1973 book by Robert C. Mikesh on Japanese bomb attacks and the previously noted article by John Keel’s FATE magazine article on a Roswell Fugo balloon connection.

Japan’s World War II Balloon Bomb Attacks of North America, by Robert C. Mikesh, Smithsonian Institution Press, City of Washington / 1973, 85 pages

From November 1944 to the summer of 1945 Japan in a desperate measure to prevent defeat launched over one thousand “fugo” high altitude balloons equipped with bombs that reached North America. Fortunately they did little damage, killing only six Americans and causing some forest fires. However its significant in that for the first time the U.S. was attacked from the air by weapons from another continent. At the time these attacks were kept secret from the American public to prevent loss of morale and also to prevent spies from learning of the effectiveness or lack thereof of the Japanese weapons.

However eventually the public was told of these weapons and how to avoid triggering off their explosive if one landed nearby.

How does this relate to UFOs? In a recent issue of FATE magazine, journalist John Keel speculated that it was a fugo balloon that crashed at Roswell, New Mexico, not a real “flying saucer.” This has caused UFO and aviation experts to research World War II secret weapons and consider alternatives to the popular theory that an extraterrestrial spacecraft crashed at Roswell. This reviewer doubts that a mere balloon crash two years after the end of the war would merit a massive cover-up. This book has dozens of photos of the Japanese weapons so the reader can judge for himself if this can be reconciled with the evidence collected by Roswell experts.

  • Roswell Bombshell? Nick Redfern’s Ufological Expose!

BodySnatchers in the Desert – The Horrible Truth at the Heart of the Roswell Story by Nick Redfern / Paraview Pocket Books 2005

On the heels of Nick Redfern’s appearance at the Texas Ghost Lights conference and subsequent research expedition to the East Texas Ghost Road, Nick has rekindled the debate about what exactly crashed at Roswell, New Mexico and other nearby sites, that strange summer of 1947.

UFO Review, Issue 11 – Special Edition: “Roswell – The End”

From Stuart Miller – Editor UFO Review online magazine

It’s a bit difficult to know how to start this but, put simply, Nick Redfern has a new book out called “Body Snatchers In The Desert” and in it, he offers without question the most plausible explanation offered so far about what occurred at Roswell. We were fortunate to be granted an exclusive (yes a scoop!) pre-publication interview with Nick and it is an exhaustive, thorough, long and very detailed run through, with additional pieces of information not found in the book. Because the interview is so long and of such great significance, it was decided to dedicate the whole of this issue to it. You will not have read this material anywhere else before. You may not read it in such depth afterwards.

Nick’s book is a quite brilliant piece of research and there can be little doubt left that he has finally nailed this case and that what we get here is a full explanation. If you have not heard anything about it before reading this then I will not spoil it for you by giving “it” away, but you need to prepare yourself for a mixture of emotions. The consequences of Nick’s work have enormous implications for Ufology, simply immense, and a period of reappraisal will be needed.

This is a significant moment in the history of this subject. Good luck. <www.UfoReview.net>

Meanwhile, the UFO UpDates eList moderator and “Strange Days … Indeed” Radio Show host, Errol Bruce Knapp, hosted a pre-recorded interview with Nick Redfern that you can listen to online here:

Here is what the publishers have to say … IT WAS A CONSPIRACY TO HIDE A SECRET EXPERIMENT!

“RAAF captures flying saucer on ranch in Roswell region.” Ever since this provocative headline appeared on July 8, 1947, conspiracy theorists have sincerely believed that the U.S. government has maintained an extensive operation of cover-up-and-denial regarding its knowledge of alien life. But there was, in fact, no UFO crash with dead alien bodies. What really happened on that fateful day is much more sinister. The persistent rumors surrounding the UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico, are part of a bigger conspiracy — one orchestrated and fostered by the government itself as a smokescreen to bury a truth that is much darker, and disturbingly, far more believable.

Now, through never-before-revealed testimony from military whistleblowers, eyewitness intelligence reports, and an astonishing body of corroborative evidence, Nick Redfern lays out a shockingly plausible new theory on the Roswell incident: that the crash-site discovery of prototype military aircraft would expose a damning secret — a highly confidential, U.S. government-sanctioned program to conduct medical experiments on deformed, handicapped, disfigured, and diseased Japanese POWs, exploited as “expendable” victims by their captors.

An important account that forces us to take a closer look at both the Roswell story and post-war American history, BODY SNATCHERS IN THE DESERT casts a startling, new light on a shocking conspiracy more than half a century in the making.

Dog Days of Summer almost here … Researchers in California and in Cambridge, England, are successfully training man’s best friend to smell out one of his worst enemies.

Can Dogs Sniff Out Cancer? Jun 26, 2005

(CBS) A dog’s nose is 2,000 times more sensitive than a human’s. It’s a true wonder of nature. A dog’s nose can differentiate thousands of odors.

In a sense, a dog sees with its nose. And for centuries, they’ve been our hunters and trackers, our rescuers and guards, and warm and fuzzy pets.

But, as medical researchers in England have begun to discover, that may just be the tip of their talent. As Correspondent Morley Safer first reported last January, thanks to a dog’s nose, man’s best friend may be his newest ally in the battle against his worst enemy: cancer.

Boffins create zombie dogs by Nick Buchan of NEWS.com.au / June 27, 2005

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.

Pittsburgh’s Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject’s veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

  • The Black Vault Approaches 300,000 Government Documents

NORTHRIDGE (BlackVault) – Saturday, June 25, 2005 – The Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) closed on September 29, 1995. During its 23-year history, OTA provided Congressional members and committees with analyses of the scientific and technological issues that were increasingly relevant to public policy and legislative action. The public has rarely seen these reports – until now!

The Black Vault completed the transfer of the entire OTA collection, from the beginning of the agency in 1972, to it’s shut down in 1995. The 104th Congress voted to withdraw funding for OTA and its full-time staff of 143, and cover only enough to provide a skeleton staff and the amount needed for the agency’s final closeout.

The reports range from defense issues to critical environmental issues.

Some of the more interesting documents include:

  • Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction: Assessing the Risks (1993)
  • A History of the Department of Defense Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (1995)
  • The Effects of Nuclear War (1979)
  • The Efficacy and Cost Effectiveness of Psychotherapy (1980)
  • U.S.-Russian Cooperation in Space (1995)
  • NASA’s Office of Space Science and Applications: Process, Priorities and Goals (1992)
  • Orbiting Debris: A Space Environmental Problem (1990)
  • Round Trip to Orbit: Human Spaceflight Alternatives (1989)

There are hundreds of reports that will spark interest in almost anyone. These records were sold by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) at one time, but during attempts of The Black Vault to purchase the collection, the GPO had no idea where to find it – and believed it was no longer in their catalog, despite there own website reference: <www.gpo.gov/ota/>

This collection takes The Black Vault to a total of nearly 300,000 pages of government material. This archive remains, by far, the largest of it’s kind anywhere in the world.

Popular Mechanics magazine, July 1997 Roswell issueeNEWS FEATURE:

It appears that links began making their way onto the early internet in the mid 1990s linking the infamous Roswell crash case with the John Keel appears to have been the first to link the Japanese FUGO balloons with Roswell.Japanese Fugo balloon theory and eventually it’s connection to the Japanese human experimentation atrocities committed under the heading of Unit 731.

The biggest irony about this re-emergence of the Fugo Roswell hypothesis is that it comes on the heels of a recent raucous debate on the UFO UpDates eList Fate magazine, March 1990 issue featured an article by John Keel linking Japanese Fugo balloons and Roswellabout the value of journalist John Keel‘s contribution to UFO research.

<www.fatemag.com/archives_1990.html>

And another article with reporting from Joe Stefula, this time via CNI News

Are we not the better off for having the true version of the “facts” ? Regards, Peter Brazinskas, Rochdale, Lancashire.

<http://www.ufonet.it/archivio/crop.watcher.htm>

ARCHIVE NEWS:

  • Hello and welcome to another Anomaly Archives eNews Podcast. Last month I made the trek to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for the annual Ozark UFO Conference. I’d been wanting to attend this legendary event for some time and finally made it. The lectures and people rejuvinated my love of UFO conferences and anomalous studies. (See this issue’s Features section for a brief review of the lectures.)

But what warmed my heart even more about the conference was that it became a sort of Austin MUFON Reunion for me and others. Austin MUFON alumni Monte and Ellen Stuart were in attendance – as I should have expected since they had always talked of attending so many of the past Ozark conferences. They moved to Illinois over four years ago and I’d not really interacted much with them since they left. Also present was Houston, Texas MUFONite Andy Abercrombie whose company is always entertaining. All of these old friends said they will likely be visiting Austin in June for the upcoming Anomaly Archives event, the Texas Ghost Lights Conference featuring Paul Devereux and other spook light researchers.

So don’t forget to check out this issue’s Events section to get the details on the June 11th Ghost Lights event PLUS next week’s Consciousness Community Picnic with Silent Auction and Fun in the Sun. Last year’s picnic was wonderful and we’ve no doubt that this year’s will be even better.

Enjoy the rest of this month’s Anomaly Archives eNewsletter.

ANOMALY HEADLINES:

  • Mexican Air Force FLIR Lights Case ‘Closed’? by Capt. Alejandro Franz
    Sun, 17 Apr 2005.

Remember the media flap over the Mexican Air Force FLIR footage of seemingly anomalous lights videotaped back in March? Well, some time ago a theory emerged suggesting that they might be misinterpreted images of oil well fires on off-shore drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. As you might imagine, this theory, while being accepted by the very reputable NARCAP (or National Aviation Reporting Center for Anomalous Phenomena), has been flatly rejected by many in the UFO community. Here is some of Captain Alejandro’s recent announcement:

NARCAP - National Aviation Reporting Center for Anomalous PhenomenaI waited many months for the opportunity to provide new evidence on the Mexican Air Force UFO case from march 05, 2004.

My theory, at least for me, is finally confirmed and the Mexican Air Force UFO case of march 05, 2004 is closed. In april 14, 2005 I was lucky enough to record a video that shows the Cantarell oil flames group that matches the same lights as those in the Mexican Air Force FLIR video regardless that it was recorded in a different route, altitude and angle of view.

There is enough evidence and data for me to conclude that the Mexican Air Force FLIR video lights are not UFO’s.

Best regards to all,

Capt. Alejandro Franz

And now from the heart of North Texas we hear of the University of Texas at Arlington’s hosting of a lecture by veteran paranormal investigator Loyd Auerbach.

  • Guest Speaker – Ghost hunter visits campus The paranormal expert shared anecdotes about hauntings and poltergeists. By Jordan Taylor – The Shorthorn Staff

Loyd Auerbach, paranormal psychologist and self-proclaimed “Ghost hunter,” relates a story about strange sounds in a young couple’s new house during his presentation Wednesday in the Lone Star Auditorium. Auerbach’s research was later used as the basis for a story in Playgirl magazine. After his speech, Auerbach visited campus locations to check for paranormal activity.

And later in the article we read …

Auerbach told several stories about victims of paranormal activities and his experiences with them. One story, “Lois of Livermore,” told about a boy who said he saw and talked to the ghost of a recently deceased past resident of his home. The boy said the woman would tell him aspects about her life. Auerbach then checked these facts and all of them were correct.

Hauntings, which Auerbach said were different from poltergeist activity, were discussed in detail. He said hauntings are like an historical imprint on an environment.

Auerbach told a story to illustrate this fact called “The Sexorcist.” The incident involved a couple that had just moved into a house. Every morning at 3 a.m. they would hear loud sexual noises in the room next door. Auerbach thought the noises were imprinted in the room due to the intense activities. He called the couple that had lived in the house and verified that they in fact would have “passionate” sex every morning at 3.

Meanwhile, across the pond in England we read of Postgraduate studies in the Occult.

  • Postgraduate Lives: Occult fascinationDavid Foster, PhD student at the University of LiverpoolInterview by Caitlin Davies – April 21, 2005

David Foster is in his fifties and is about to start a PhD at Liverpool University on the occult

I get a mixed reaction when I tell people what I do. I usually have to go into a long explanation of the occult tradition and how it has been marginalised because of prejudice and fear. The popular perception of the occult is ghosties and ghoulies, which is a caricature. But the occult has influenced a whole body of scholarly thought, from Newton’s involvement with alchemy and Pythagorean thought, to Jung’s work on the unconscious. My aim is to use a scholarly perspective to look at contemporary perceptions and interpretations of the occult.

The occult is a controversial subject that has been grossly sensationalised, and the media doesn’t help. Look at Channel 4’s recent series Masters of Darkness. From a scholarly point of view, it was superficial, gratuitously salacious and misleading.

  • NASA Scientist: ‘Mars Could be Biologically Alive’ By Leonard David – Senior Space Writer – April 19, 2005 – Space.com

BOULDER, Colorado – Evidence for intense local enhancements in methane on Mars has been bolstered by ground-based observations. The methane, as well as water on Mars, was detected using state-of-the-art infrared spectrometers stationed atop Mauna Kea, Hawaii and in Cerro Pachón, Chile.

Scientific teams around the globe are on the trail of methane seeping out of Mars. And for good reason: The methane could be the result of biological processes. It could also be an “abiotic” geochemical process, however, or the result of volcanic or hydrothermal activity on the red planet.

Many types of microbes here on Earth produce a signature of methane. Indeed, the tiny fraction of atmospheric carbon found as methane on our planet is churned out almost entirely biologically with only a very small contribution from abiotic processes, scientists say.

NETWORK:

We find so many great resource links each month. Here are just a few I found recently.

The first is from a great new online resource The Book of Thoth and is near and dear to the Anomaly Archivist in me as it involves the preservation and dissemination of UFOlogical history.

  • Thirty Years of UFO Newspaper archivesOnline at The Book of Thoth dot com Posted by Isis

The Book of Thoth has just completed a project that involved transcribing over 130 press clippings dating back to 1945, creating a lengthy research document that will be of interest to all UFO researchers.

Is there really insufficient reporting of UFO phenomena by the popular press? The Internet means that today sightings are easily accessible to most researchers within hours of their happening.

We thought it would be interesting to review some of the older sightings from around the world starting in the 1940’s when the first wave of sightings began and the public’s fascination with unidentified flying objects really started.

<The-Book-of-Thoth.com>

I once heard someone in the UFO community say that, “the United States Navy has forgotten more about UFOs than the Air Force ever knew.” I’ve always been fascinated by reports of USOs or Unidentified Submarine Objects. Since most of the planet is covered by water, it’s no wonder that so many UFO encounters happen on, near and within bodies of water. In fact, since the phenomena have been with us on the planet for so long this may be the best place to posit as their kingdom of origin.

  • Flying SubmarineWATER UFO dot Net – A RESEARCH ENDEAVOR by Carl

Why is this Web page necessary?

In 1971 Ivan T. Sanderson published the book “Invisible Residents”. This is as far as I know the only book exclusively devoted to UFOs entering or exiting bodies of water. But the end result of his investigation was his conclusion that UFOs had bases underwater. My interest in this aspect of the UFO phenomenon lies in its physical manifestation. Just as ground traces such as broken tree limbs, swirled grasses, ground imprints and burned plant roots can give us some fleeting clues to the “operation/field,” of these craft; I feel that the observed reaction between the envelope surrounding this craft, and the water, might further our understanding of the principles behind it. COLLECTIONS:

  • Anomaly Archives’ Paul Devereux Collection

Since the Anomaly Archives is helping present the upcoming Texas Ghost Lights Conference in June, we thought you’d like to know what resources the Anomaly Archives has on the various presenters scheduled to appear at this six hour workshop. Legendary British Earth Mysteries researcher Paul Devereux is our keynote speaker for this event. Paul’s works occupy a special place within the Anomaly Archives and my own personal take on UFOs and related phenomena. Here are a few of his books that we have available for check out from the Archives collection. Check out Paul’s website for more information on his many areas of research. <PaulDevereux.co.uk>

Earth Lights Revelation: Ufo’s and Mystery Lightform Phenomena

The Earth’s Secret Energy Force

This is the book that I first found after learning about earth generated luminous phenomena. It’s a great starting place for anyone interested in the convergance of place and anomalous aerial phenomena.

Earth Memory:

Sacred Sites, Doorways into Earth’s Mysteries

This is a comprehensive analysis of ancient sacred sites and their help in our understanding our the life of our ancestors.

Earthmind:

Communicating With the Living World of Gaia

With EarthMind, Devereux “explores ways of interfacing with the earth for planetary healing.”

And according to Yoga Journal, “Devereux builds the foundation for his case carefully, on the basis of solid research and defensible reasoning.”

For me, this book helped the exploration of my own Gaian UFO hypothesis synthesized from the research of Michael Persinger, Jenny Randles, Greg Little, Albert Budden and others.

Shamanism and the Mystery Lines:

Ley Lines, Spirit Paths, Shape-Shifting & Out-Of-Body Travel

I’ve not yet read this book of Devereux’s but have no doubt it is a valuable resource for those seeking grounded research from which to astrally launch themselves.

Ufo’s and Ufology: The First 50 Years – This is a great coffee-table formatted introduction to the important research on UFOs that goes beyond mere interpretation of UFOs as extraterrestrial craft.

From School Library Journal YA

“While keeping most references to UFOs within the last 50 years, the authors mention unusual sightings as far back as the time of the caveman. These ties to the earliest days of humans become important later on. Incidents and explanations are painstakingly detailed, as Devereux goes to great lengths to prove his logical answers, to present the scientific reasons for the final analysis of the situation, and to make certain that both sides of the story are told. While all of this may be extremely important to serious ufologists, for casual readers it may become overwhelming in some sections.”

eNEWS FEATURE:

  • Micro Review – Annual Ozark UFO Conference 2005, Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

It had been years since I’d attended a classic UFO conference such as this legendary Ozark event. The last anomaly conference I attended, besides the multiple Texas cryptozoology conferences was the SSI Society for Scientific Exploration event held in La Jolla, California back in pre 911, 2001.

FOREST CRAWFORD, “Mean Mr. Gravity: An Obituary” – Mr. Crawford talked about Mr. Gravity and how there is much research to suggest that the fascinating subject of ElectroGravitics research indicates that technology to negate or manipulate the impact of gravity went underground. I enjoyed his talk and it seemed to bode well for the conference. Check out this link to find out more about his views on various aspects of ufology.

SCOTT & SUZANNE RAMSEY – Aztec 1948: Recovery at Hart Canyon?” – While generally considered to be a hoax, the alleged Aztec, New Mexico UFO crash has generated a town festival and now a book and documentary called, what else but Aztec 1948 UFO Crash – Hoax or Hidden Truth. I missed this one but my friends who saw it said that the most interesting aspect of the talk was the presentation style wherein husband and wife Scott and Suzanne enacted a sort of interview style dialogue on stage. Though they have documented a purported 60 plus witnesses associated with this alleged event, most of the people who heard this lecture told me they felt incredulous.

DAVID MARLER, “Triangular UFOs: A Detailed Analysis of the Historical Record” – I thoroughly enjoyed this retrospective analysis of the huge and expanding catalog of triangular and delta form UFO reports. This sort of research effort always tickles my archivist bones. Check out this version of David’s talk as well as a fascinating modern triangle sighting by active UFO UpDates eList member Greg Boone.

“REPORTS OF and ABOUT TRIANGULAR-SHAPED UFO and SIMILAR UNIDENTIFIED AERIAL OBJECTS DATING FROM 1871 TO THE PRESENT”

And Greg Boone’s triangular ufo sighting … More Proof of Media UFO Coverup

NANCY TALBOTT, “Crop Circles: Evidence and Seduction” – Yet again I was reminded of how warm and fuzzy hardcore scientific anomalies research makes me. Nancy Talbott is one of the leading scientific investigators into the mystery of AgriGlyphs or Crop Circles. It was at that same La Jolla SSI anomaly conference I mentioned earlier that I last saw anyone present evidence related to the scientific investigation of this strange phenomenon. The SSI conference in 2001 included a talk by William C. Levengood who was then working with Nancy Talbott. They have since parted ways. Most of the research Nancy has coordinated through the BLT Research group is available online at their official website, BLTresearch.com

Since that time Nancy has gone on to co-witness the creation of a crop circle made by a seemingly intelligently controlled BOL or Ball Of Light phenomenon. This and even stranger BOL and anomalous luminous phenomena seem to be the hallmark of a young man named Robert van den Broeke whom Nancy has become entangled with. The photo above right (at the beginning of this section) is but one of the many now infamous photographs coming out of modern spirit photographer and spooklight contactee Robert van den Broeke. Robert appears to have become a sort of crop circle contactee when he encountered several balls of light that were circling around a nearby tree. Since then Robert has become the focus of a variety poltergeist-like phenomena, BOL activity, spirit photography type effects and other strangeness. Nancy Talbott says we are going to be hearing a lot more about Robert van den Broeke very soon and she wishes us to prepare ourselves. Check out these links to learn more.

Grant CameronGRANT CAMERON, “Is The Government Disclosing or Covering Up?” – I thoroughly enjoyed Grant’s presentation which argued that, far from trying to unilaterally cover-up “the truth” about UFO’s, the United States government, across partisan divisions, has tried to bring out the government’s secrets about UFOs. According to Grant Cameron the difference between Democratic Presidential Administrations and Republican Presidential Administrations approaches to getting the truth out into the public is a matter of mass declassifications by the Dems and the use of “back door” channels by the Republicans. Grant believes that the Republican Administrations approach has, so far, been the more successful strategy. In Mr. Cameron’s presentation he played much audio from researcher Greg Bishop’s radio shows and Greg Bishopinterviews with radio host Art Bell, Air Force disinformationalist Richard Doty and ufologist disinformationalist Bill Moore. Despite his focus on this disinformation campaign, Grant details the apparent ongoing efforts of various military officials using what Vallee and others have referred to as the “dangling carrot” scenario, wherein the military offer to give rare UFO / ET footage to film producers Excluded Middleincluding first Walt Disney in the mid 1950s, then Robert Emenegger and Bob Sadler in 1973, then Jacques Vallee and J. Allen Hynek and later Linda Moulton Howe who was trying to produce a show for HBO. In all of these instances, military officials were offering to release previously classified, highly significant UFO footage that often focused on an alleged controlled landing of a craft at Holomon Air Force Base whereupon humanoid occupants are alleged to have disembarked and interacted with Air Force personnel. For more on all of these arenas see the following links.

<PresidentialUFO.com>

LINDA MOULTON HOWE, “UFO Crash Retrievals–U.S. Government Policy of Denial in the Interest of National Security” – Linda Howe’s presentation was very educational for me. She spoke in great detail about the work of former New Mexico State Representative Andrew Kissner alleging a connection between the military’s shoot down order against flying saucers and the subsequent airplane crash wave of 1947. She also dealt with crashed saucers and the possibility of an early discovery by the government of evidence suggesting the saucer pilots were abducting and mutilating not just livestock but humans as well. She also discussed her own research of course, which you can read about at her website, EarthFiles.com

TED PHILLIPS, “UFOs: The Physical Evidence” – As a long time admirer of Ted Phillips’ career of documenting UFO physical trace evidence I was not disappointed by his information packed presentation. Nearly all of what he covered is included in the four CD Rom discs I purchased for the Archives.

Physical Traces – 147 pages, 138 images, ten cases including Delphos, Langenburg, Cennina and 7 others

Strange Days in the Marley Woods – 68 pages, 133 images, an active site in Missouri I’ve been investigating since 1998

Ghost Lights – 62 pages, 79 images, research into six long term lights from 1964 to the present

Project Tatra – 55 pages, 49 images, the search for an ancient artifact in Slovakia/Ukraine. Project Tatra

My favorite of his presentations was the “Secrets of the Tatra Cave” – the tale of mining engineer Tony Horak, a Czech who escaped from Nazi Labor Camps, joined the guerilla resistance, survived WWII, endured persecution by Communists, and ultimately immigrated to America in the early 1950s. Oh and he also survived an assault by the Nazi army that killed everyone in his battalion but he and two others only to be saved by a local sheep herder who took them to a cave to hide, wherein Tony discovered a strange giant ancient black artifact, prehistoric cave bear bones and teeth and underneath that … a metal grating through which Tony heard distant machinery and felt heat coming up from below. Tony eventually told the story to someone other than his wife and this person happened to be interested in UFOs and passed the lead on to Ted Philips. Ted and mentor J. Allen Hynek planned an expedition to Czechoslovakia but the political climate prevented it. Then in the late 1990s Ted asked then UFOlogical darling Joe Firmage to help fund an expedition. He did and on the second visit Ted Philips located the cave.

There is much much more to this amazing research and we suggest you try this link to “Secrets of the Tatra Cave” at UFOarea.com to read more. Or go directly to Ted’s own page on his investigation. Or just come check out the CD Rom research at the Anomaly Archives.

For more on Ted Phillips Research go to his website, Center for Physical Trace Research <CPTR.us>

There were of course more speakers and much more could be said about all the lectures. But we have to start wrapping up this eNews Feature sooner rather than later.

Oh yeah! And of course, I was unable to restrain myself from spending money in the Vendor Room on rare UFO books to add to the Anomaly Archives collections.

  • Anomaly Archives / Human Potential Center front officeBigger Anomaly Archives Spaces Coming Soon!

The Anomaly Archives is working with the Human Potential Center to move our collections and start a new office in the two-story garage apartment onsite at the Human Potential Campus. This garage apartment was the originally intended birthing space for the Anomaly Archives and is three to four times the size of the library’s current location within the main house of the Human Potential Center.

Two Story Garage Apartment to be New Home of Anomaly ArchivesThe space requires much work to bring it up to the needs of the Anomaly Archives lending library but I have no doubt that we can, with your help, upgrade this great new space for the Scientific Anomaly Institute to grow into its next phase.

Once completed this new space will allow for our collections to continue to grow while also providing upstairs and outdoors meeting spaces, a bathroom and kitchen of its own and much more.

The Human Potential Center and Anomaly Archives will be holding a Garage Clean-Out Yard Sale very soon to make way for the two organizations to begin the necessary upgrades required before the Archives collections can officially move in.

  • Black Hole created in the lab?Creating Black Holes in the Lab? BBC news Reports.

Lab fireball ‘may be black hole’

Creating the conditions for the formation of black holes is one of the aims of particle physics.

A fireball created in a US particle accelerator has the characteristics of a black hole, a physicist has said.

It was generated at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) in New York, US, which smashes beams of gold nuclei together at near light speeds.

Horatiu Nastase says his calculations show that the core of the fireball has a striking similarity to a black hole.

His work has been published on the pre-print website arxiv.org and is reported in New Scientist magazine.

“The Rooftop Madman” Appears in Santa Fe Argentina

INEXPLICATAThe Journal of Hispanic Ufology

March 6, 2005 – translated by Scott Corales

A Mysterious Character Harasses Santa Fe Residents – 03.04.05

Local residents say it jumps from house to house, is dressed in black and has red eyes. After hundreds of complaints, police is looking for it. Listen to the Sheriff’s story on Radio 10.

Santa Fe is jumping. Residents of the southern area are frightened by the appearance of a strange entity they’ve dubbed “the rooftop madman” and who – according to their accounts – leaps from roof to roof engaging in acrobatics.

Witness claim it stands two meters tall, is entirely clad inblack and wears a balaclava; it sports a cape and its eyes shine red according to the information received by researchers. This character is able to cross the streets by leaping from one rooftop to the next, taking acrobatic leaps that can be of up to five meters high and ten meters long.

“He looks like the cat man,” say some locals. “His outline is barely visible, his figure. He never showed his face, but they say they’ve seen his eyes and that they have a reddish cast.”

In an interview with Radio 10, Sheriff Gabriel Legstra acknowledged that “there is a widespread psychosis. In recent days we have received hundred of reports at our radio command center.”

“On Tuesday I dispatched 18 units to assuage people’s fears. But ultimately there is no other crime than tresspassing here. The character goes from one roof to the next, appears inside a house, has pressed his face against a window but hasn’t attacked anyone.”

The psychosis is growing among residents of southern Santa Fe in spite of having never been attacked. Police confirm that in recent days calls have multiplied, reporting a man leaping from one rooftop to the next “like a madman”.

  • Texas UFO Sightings: Oval-Shaped UFO Seen in Fort Worth, Texas

UFO ROUNDUP Volume 10, Number 12

March 23, 2005 by Editor: Joseph Trainor

On Saturday, March 19, 2005, at 8:20 p.m., Bryce Griffith was outdoors in his neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas (population 534,694) when he noticed “a strange object approaching from the west.”

“I was walking out to the backyard to feed my dog, and I looked up in the sky,” Bryce reported, “I saw an oval-shaped, metallic-colored object, twice the size of a fighter jet. It had lights on four sides. Two on the front and two on the back–they were just white. There were two on the opposite sides that were colored.”

“The UFO didn’t make a sound, even though it was flying low. I’m not sure about the height (altitude–J.T.) About 300 feet (90 meters). It was going faster than a fighter jet, though not that much faster.”

Battelle Leading Effort to Design Next-Generation Talking Book Player

PressRelease via PRNewswire.com — COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 21 — The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress, has chosen a consortium led by Battelle to design and develop its next-generation digital talking book players.

Battelle is working with HumanWare, the National Federation of the Blind, and the Trace Center to develop a new player to meet the needs of the blind and physically handicapped and others with print disabilities. The new flash- based player will be lightweight, portable, and durable, and is expected to be freely distributed to over 700,000 individuals in the U.S.

“We are excited to have brought this exceptional group of companies on board. We have great confidence in their capabilities and we know that the product they design will be a success for our patrons,” says Frank Kurt Cylke, NLS director.

Digital talking books revolutionize the reading experience by providing advanced features such as ease of navigation, better audio quality, and the ability to enter bookmarks. Additionally, a complete book will fit on a single flash memory card.

NETWORK:

One of the main goals in the Anomaly Archives mission statement is to act as a networking point for like-minded organizations and information resources. As you probably noticed, a lot of our news gathering comes from these great online resources including:

      • Joseph Trainor’s UFO RoundUp is a wonderful read that always has fantastic information available for free online at it’s home <UfoInfo.com/roundup/>
      • The Anomalist newswire is an incredible resource updated throughout the day. An off-shoot of it’s print predecessor, this site has turned into the DrudgeReport of anomaly news gathering. Check out Anomalist.com
      • The UFO UpDates eList operated by Errol Bruce-Knapp and archived online at VirtuallyStrange.net is one of the best lists to read as it features a wide variety of noteworthy perspectives of people actively doing UFO research.
      • Abductee, Experiencer, Mind Kontrol Victim, and Writer Whitley Strieber. Whitley’s site UnknownCountry.com is a phenomenal site for paranormal news plus he and his wife Anne Strieber contribute their own analysis of the news.

In the spirit of networking there is this good news that I learned of via the UFO UpDates eList:

Launch of INET: International Network of Experiencer Therapists

INET launches; made possible by alliance of organizations

On behalf of the International Contact Support Network (ICSN), the John E. Mack Institute (JEMI), the Organization for Paranormal Understanding and Support (OPUS), and, we hope, other organizations to be announced, I’d like to briefly share news about an effort we have allied for:

We are coming together for the purpose of maintaining a master network or directory of therapists who service the “experiencer” population – people whose lives have been deeply affected by alien encounters or similar extraordinary experiences. We are allied for a priority that supersedes any of our varying opinions and beliefs about aliens: helping people-in-need without pathologizing them.

It is our collective intention to broaden this alliance to include other groups in the United States, Canada, and abroad that have each been attempting to maintain their own regional lists of clinicians. Each group will then invite the therapists they know and trust into the network, which we have dubbed the International Network of Experiencer Therapists (INET).

This network is owned by no one but serves many. Furthermore, it is a secure network, accessible only by representatives of each group of the alliance and by the therapists themselves.

(Therapists can also use INET for secure communication between colleagues). Currently, OPUS and JEMI have begun to invite the therapists whom they know into INET, and others are making preparations to do the same.

At this time we would like to invite interested parties – representatives of organizations who have similar needs and similar clinical lists – to please contact any of us for more information on how to ally with this effort for the benefit of all.

I hasten to mention that this secure network is entirely free, and if that sounds too good to be true, be assured that truth can indeed be stranger than fiction. (We have several people to thank for making this possible, but I want to keep this announcement brief). Signed by Will Bueche.

COLLECTIONS:

  • Paul Rydeen Collection

Back during the Zine Scene heydays of the 90s I met writer / researcher Paul Rydeen. Famous for his research into the Cargo Cults phenomena as well as his writings in Crash Collusion and other magazines, Paul has amassed an incredible array of books.

Cargo of the Gods? by Paul Rydeen

“Cargo cults and saucer groups are alike in having a millenial ideal; the forms this ideal takes are remarkably similar. They both have a non-personal entity (the ancestors and the Space Brothers) expected to manifest via mechanical vehicles (planes, ships, UFOs) bringing cargo (chocolate bars, radios, and postnuclear peacekeeping technology) and a just salvation. The impetus for both groups is not necessarily the material goods, but the status they bring….”

Topics in these donated collections are diverse, ranging from Ancient Civilizations (Atlantis and such), to the UFO Contactee movement of the 1950s and 60s, to Government and Military research into Mind Control techniques and technologies, with numerous first editions of classic UFO books and much, much more. Look for the entire cataloged collection to be posted in an upcoming issue. Here’s just a taste …

Mind Control Classics:

physical control of the mind by jose delgadoMind Control, MKultra and beyondPhysical Control of the Mind: Toward a Psychocivilized Society
by Jose M. Delgado. Don’t forget the good doctor’s congressional testimony in 1974 where he stated:

“We need a program of psychosurgery for political control of our society. The purpose is physical control of the mind. Everyone who deviates from the given norm can be surgically mutilated.”

“The individual may think that the most important reality is his own existence, but this is only his personal point of view. This lacks historical perspective. Man does not have the right to develop his own mind. This kind of liberal orientation has great appeal. We must electrically control the brain. Some day armies and generals will be controlled by electric stimulation of the brain.”

Also in the recently donated Rydeen Collection are …

Rare Fortean, UFO, Alien Abduction and Contactee Books:

proceedings of the first international ufo congress by curtis g. fullerProceedings of the First International UFO Congress by Curtis G. Fuller. I’d never even heard of this conference, let alone the book covering the event proceedings. This looks like a fantastic resource snapshot of leading edge thoughts on UFOs circa 1980. There is even a huge section, “Part Six: UFOs as Mind Phenomena” wherein Stan Friedman admits to psychological factors but insists on the nuts and bolts reality of the phenomena. Elsewhere Jacques Vallee apparently reflects on the UFO as a sort of “paranormal software.” Other presentors include Kenneth Arnold, James A. Harder, Ted Philips, Frank B. Salisbury, David M. Jacobs, Jerome Clark, J. Allen Hynek, Ted Bloecher, Betty Hill, Alvin H. Lawson, Curtis Fuller, Jim Lorenzen, David Stupple, R. Leo Sprinkle, Berthold Eric Schwartz, and J. Gordan Melton.

Rebirth of Pan: Hidden Faces of the American Earth Spirit – by James Brandon. This is an incredibly rare book you will be hearing more from me about in the near future. This book documents the Gaian UFO Intelligence hypothesis I hope to write more about very soon. Equally curious is the true identity behind the pen name James Brandon. Also written under this pseudonym was the book Weird America: A Guide to Places of Mystery in the United States.

UFO Contact at Pascagoula by Charles Hickson and William Mendez – A truly rare book written by Charles Hickson about he and Calvin Parkers abduction by wrinkly-skinned “clawmen” in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the night of October 11th, 1973. A fascinating abduction case that drives home the emotional torment experienced by UFO close encounter witnesses while having a wildly different type of entity compared to the big-eyed, big-headed grays. I can’t wait to read this book!

Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons – by John Carter with and introduction by Robert Anton Wilson. Paul was kind enough to donate a copy of the new revised edition autographed by John Carterß. From the Feral House mini-site:

In his short 37 years, John Whiteside “Jack” Parsons embodied at least several different roles in one tormented but glorious life.

By day, Parsons’ unorthodox genius created a solid rocket fuel that helped the Allies win World War II and NASA send spacecraft to the moon. Co-founder of Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aerojet Corporation, a lunar crater was named after Parsons.

By night, Parsons called himself The Antichrist when he performed Aleister Crowley’s Thelemic rituals to create a new sort of human being that would finally destroy Christianity.

In a Pasadena mansion, the dark, handsome Parsons hosted soirees for the emerging literature of science fiction, visited by writers such as Robert Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, and none other than L. Ron Hubbard, who later founded the Church of Scientology. With Hubbard playing his “Scribe,” Parsons enacted dark “Babalon” rituals to help foment a new occult age. Jack Parsons died suddenly in a huge, mysterious explosion that even today cannot be definitively explained.

Was it murder? Suicide?
Or just an accident?

Feral House‘s paperback edition adds new photographs and an Afterword about Parsons’ “Black Pilgrimage.”

Why UFOs – Operation Trojan Horse by John A. Keel – This is one of my all time favorite UFO books. It is an incredible introduction to the breadth of ufology and was written in 1970. From the book jacket…

“THIS BOOK IS A WARNING

“Suppose the plan is to process millions of people and at some future date trigger those minds at one time? Would we suddenly have a world of saints or a world of armed maniacs shooting at one another from bell towers?

“The Air Force and the CIA are not in a conspiracy to silence the believers, as the cultist claim. The experts were rendered mute by the awesome and overwhelming realization that man is not alone; that the human race is merely a trifling part of something bigger – something that could drive the human mind into madness.

“The real UFO story must encompass all of the many manifestations being observed. It is a story of ghosts and phantoms and strange mental aberations; of an invisible world which surrounds us and occasionally engulfs us; of prophets and prophecies, of gods and demons. It is a world of illusion and hallucination where the unreal seems very real and where reality itself is distorted by strange forces which can seemingly manipulate space and time and physical matter — forces which are almost entirely beyond our powers of comprehension!”

An Account of a Meeting with Denizens of Another World – written in 1871 by William Robert Loosley. Edited and with commentary by David Langford.

The Presence of Other Worlds: The Findings of Emanuel Swedenborg by Wilson Van Dusen (keep reading for information on the new Swedenborg Collection added to the Jung Society of Austin’s library holdings).

Emanuel SwedenborgFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Emanuel Swedenborg (born Swedberg) (January 29, 1688–March 29, 1772), Swedish scientist, philosopher and mystic, was born in Stockholm as the third son of the renowned, but controversial, priest Jesper Swedberg. After concerning himself with scientific matters until he was 55 years old, Emanuel experienced a crisis, during which he claimed he gained entrance to a spiritual world where he talked with angels and spirits, many of them dead and some only known from the Bible, such as Moses and Jesus. Amongst other things, these spirits enlightened him about the true meaning of the Scriptures.

Picture on right is of Emanuel Swedenborg, 75, holding the manuscript of Apocalypsis Revelata (1766).

On Wikipedia’s page for Swedenborg you can learn more about his Early life as well as his Scientific period and Scientific contributions.

  • “April uFOOLogy Day”-

ParaPolitical use of UFOs and the Paranormal for CovertOps by SMiles Lewis

One of the things I am always harping to people about is the use of UFOs and the paranormal in psychological warfare tactics and covert operations perpetrated by governments, militaries and corporations around the world. Whether by planting and promoting news stories or by faking sightings with advanced black-program aircraft and holographic projections or even through the manipulation of UFO cults like Heaven’s Gate or the use of magicians illusions to deceive an enemy, history is filled with examples of humans manipulating humans through beliefs in “supernatural” signs and portents.

A few years ago, the government admitted that it had let some of the UFO sightings in the Air Force’s Project Blue Book files to be labeled “Unidentified” at the time because they knew that some were actually sightings of the then still secret U2 spylane. This is just the small end of the scale compared to the disinfo campaign deployed against Paul Benewitz when he got too close to top-secret projects at Kirtland Air Force base in the 1980s. In both cases, agents of the United States government, through paid personnel of the Air Force as well as willing civilian disinfo agents like William Moore, systematically lied to the American people, and in the Bennewitz case, admittedly circumvented the United States Constitution under the protection of National Security, eventually driving Bennewitz insane. The Bennewitz Affair effectively seeded the UFO community with memes that lowered the level of discourse in ufology to talk of underground alien bases in Dulce, New Mexico, treaties between aliens and the US government allowing for the wholesale abduction of and experimentation upon humanity and worse – the hybridizing of aliens with humans and the mutilation of cattle for still unknown purposes.

UFOs as a “Strategy of Tension” – Vallee Uncovers the “Martian Conspiracy” Behind WWII

Jacques Vallee is one of the few (and was the first) UFO researcher to touch upon this important aspect of UFO research – the use of “UFOs” as a decoy or strategem to accomplish some other goal that may have nothing to do with supposed extraterrestrials and their craft. He first began hinting at this possibility in his book Invisible College – What a Group of Scientists Has Discovered About UFO Influences on the Human Race in 1975. Then in his 1979 book Messengers of Deception he cited the then recently declassified information from the excellent book on WWII disinformation machinery, Bodyguard of Lies, that describes the massive “double cross” efforts of the LCS, London Controlling Section (referred to by the Brits as the “Martians”). It was this Intelligence Alliance that facilitated (some might say orchestrated) the allied victory. Vallee speculates about the probability that these same Psy-Op tactics, technologies and Intelligence networks continued
their disinformation efforts after the war – only this time to prevent another World War by uniting humanity against a common enemy. Vallee goes on to document the common military tactic and meme of manufacturing an enemy in order to rally populations into a unified force, whether it be to start a war with the perceived enemy or to prevent a war by uniting countries against a common outside threat, be it “Terrorism” or “Extraterrestrials”. He cites several late 1940s era science fiction novels dealing with the theme of using an extraterrestrial threat to unite the world. He cites the infamous Report From Iron Mountain hoax which outlines an allegedly tongue-in-cheek thesis about war as the best way to ensure economic stability and how the invention of threats, be they extraterrestrial or ecological, would be necessary.

Vallee began linking psychological control methods or “mind control” research to UFOs subtley in his book Invisible College where he proposed the idea that Waves of UFO Sightings seem to mimic a Psychological Schedule of Reinforcement.

Vallee compiled a plot of UFO waves through history and their irregular spacing suggested to Fred Becjman and Dr Price-Williams of UCLA a schedule of reinforcement designed to permanently instill a behaviour. Vallee developed from this observation the theory that UFOs represent a control system of an undetermined nature. It could simply involve social psychology, but it could also be the imposition of a supernatural will seeking to confuse us and mould us and our civilisation by targeting our collective unconscious with a physical and psychic technology. The book closes on a chilling soliloquy wherein Vallee ponders stepping outside the maze of the control system. Would he find some Lovecraftian horror, some well-meaning social engineers, or “the maddening simplicity of unattended clockwork?”

From Part 2 of ALIENATING FANCIES-The influencing machine fantasy in ufology and the extraterrestrial mythos by Martin S. Kottmeyer, in Magonia 50, September 1994 <http://www.magonia.demon.co.uk/arc/90/mkinf2.htm>

John Keel may actually have beaten Vallee to the punch on this arena. He hinted at as much in his 1970 book Why UFOs – Operation Trojan Horse.

“Suppose the plan is to process millions of people and at some future date trigger those minds at one time? Would we suddenly have a world of saints or a world of armed maniacs shooting at one another from bell towers?”

About 1989 artist and writer Martin Cannon published “The Controllers – A new hypothesis of Alien Abduction” that concretized the data connecting the United States government’s exploits in mind control research (a la ARTICHOKE, BLUEBIRD, PANDORA, MKDELTA, MKSEARCH and the infamous MKULTRA) and many specific aspects reported in UFO close encounters and especially in claimed Alien Abductions. The overwhelming evidence of some sort of connection between UFO sightings, alien abduction reports and covert operations involving mind control experimentation seeped into the public consciousness largely through the UFO community exploding with talk of these possibilities. But it was the incredibly popular television series The X-Files that really catapulted this notion of some of the Ufo and alien abduction phenomenon being the continuation of the CIA’s (and other alphabet agencies) history of research into mind control and non-lethal weapons system testing.

In one of my favorite episodes, called Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, they deal quite directly with the idea that the military might benefit from having a technology that immitates a UFO or “holy miracle”. This is the X-Files’ most humorous episode incorporating the spirit of both John Keel and Jacques Vallee. This episode serves as an excellent Introduction to UFOs.

It was towards the end of The X-Files series, that the writers began to delve into the notion that the myth of little grey aliens abducting humans was in fact the cover story for a much more convoluted conspiracy involving machiavellian conflicts amongst warring human elites as well as an alien pressence that had more of the qualities of a virus than our traditional concept of humanoid extraterrestrials.

[Listen to the end of this podcast to here a mysterious secret audio track from the X-Files soundtrack featuring X-Files creator Chris Carter describing this complex conspiracy]

In recent years, a number of writers and researchers have addressed the issue of the potential use of “UFOs” as a sort of Grand Deception to get the nation’s of the earth aligned with the United States, since they are reported to have secured a flying saucer and alien specimens as far back as 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico. Here are a few references to this subject:

Battelle, UFOs and Digital Talking Books

Battelle Memorial InstituteIn my day job I produce audiobooks for the blind and print disabled. So when I recently read the headlines about who would be developing the new digital audio player for our national program I was chagrinned to read that it involved the name Battelle. From the press release:

Battelle Leading Effort to Design Next-Generation Talking Book Player

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 21 — The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress, has chosen a consortium led by Battelle to design and develop its next-generation digital talking book players.

One of the probable reasons for ufo researcher Jacques Vallee’s suspicions about the potential use of UFOs as a form of Disinfo and “Double Cross” was his 1967 discovery of what has become known as the “Pentacle Memo.” This document led Vallee to the discovery of secret dealings between Battelle Memorial Institute and the United States Military / Intelligence complex and plans to simulate large waves of UFOs. All of this information was kept secret from the famous scientific Robertson Panel that was tasked by the United States government to assess UFOs. From Vallee’s correspondance on the importance of the memo, we read…

“… the Pentacle proposal goes far beyond anything mentioned before. It daringly states that “many different types of aerial activity should be secretly and purposefully scheduled within the area.” It is difficult to be more clear. We are not talking simply about setting up observing stations and cameras. We are talking about large-scale, covert simulation of UFO waves under military control.

The greatest implication, which is perhaps not obvious on first reading but which amounts to a scandal of major proportion in the eyes of any scientist, has to do with the outright manipulation of the Robertson panel. Here is a special meeting of the five most eminent scientists in the land, assembled by the government to discuss a matter of national security. Not only are they not made aware of all the data, but another group has already decided “what can and cannot be discussed (Pentacle’s own words!)” when they meet. Dr. Hynek categorically stated to me that the panel was not briefed about the Pentacle proposals.

Revelation of this document may seem irrelevant to Just Cause, but its explosive nature wasn’t lost on Battelle. As I noted in Forbidden Science, and as Fred Beckman vividly recalls to this day, the Project Stork team reacted with fury when Hynek went back to Battelle in 1967, demanding to know the truth. The man I have called Pentacle snatched his notes away and told him in no uncertain terms that the contents of the memo were not to be discussed, under any circumstances.

I find it odd that a group that claims to be interested in the historical study of our field, as Just Cause does, should fail to see the significance of the Pentacle Memo, which is an authentic document, when so much time, money and ink have been devoted over the last several years to an in-depth analysis of the MJ-12 papers, which were faked. Perhaps the Pentacle memo only proves that scientific studies of UFOs (and even their classified components) have been manipulated since the fifties. But it also suggests several avenues of research which are vital to the future of this field: why were Pentacle’s proposals kept from the panel? Were his plans for a secret simulation of UFO waves implemented? If so, when, where and how?  What was discovered as a result? Are these simulations still going on?

Coast to Coast AM with Art BellArt Bell, Linda Moulton Howe, Project Beta, and Goverment UFO Disinfo

At the end of February of this year, on the tails of the ABC News UFO documentary, Greg Bishop appeared on Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell to discuss the revelations in Greg’s new book, PROJECT BETA. Among the many revelations on the show was that special guest Richard Doty fessed up for the first time publicly to his complicity in the Paul Bennewitz Affair, the burglarizing of the Bennewitz home and offices under the cloak of national security, the disinformation campaigns employing ufologist Bill Moore and and attempts to disinform Linda Moulton Howe. But the topper of all this is his alleged viewing of a debriefing film that proves Roswell was real and that we did in fact have at least one living alien survivor from that crash – who also liked to eat strawberry icecream. Art Bell was wowed several times during the 4 hour interview, saying several times what an important show this was.

From the Coast to Coast website entry for that show we read…

“Gov’t Disinformation Programs:
Fringe-culture historian and publisher of The Excluded Middle, Greg Bishop, shared the story of a government authorized campaign of disinformation that defined an era of alien paranoia and destroyed the life of the late Paul Bennewitz.

Greg BishopAccording to Bishop’s account, Bennewitz detected strange lights and radio signals coming from Kirtland Air Force Base outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. An electrical physicist and pilot, Bennewitz believed he had stumbled upon alien communications, possibly the beginning signs of an extraterrestrial invasion. Alarmed by his findings, Bennewitz contacted the military and other government agencies, Bishop said.

Project Beta by Greg BishopEnter counter-intelligence officer Richard Doty, a surprise guest who joined the discussion with Art and Bishop. Doty contends that Bennewitz was close to uncovering top military secrets, so the government began a disinformation campaign against him to keep him believing the signals and lights were of alien origin. Bennewitz eventually ended up in mental institution for several months, a tragedy for which Doty feels some remorse.

Doty also claims to have personally fed lies and disinformation to frequent Coast guest Linda Moulton Howe, while she was working on a UFO special for HBO. Among Doty’s other startling revelations during the program were that Roswell actually happened (he’s seen the briefing film), a living alien was recovered, and the government was involved in cattle mutilations.”

<http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2005/02/27.html>

So is Richard Doty continuing his job as disinformationalist? Was he using the huge listenership of the Art Bell show to perpetuate more belief that the United States government has access to bodies and technologies from an “alien” culture? Who knows. But even if a huge percentage of the UFO phenomena were simply government covert-operations that doesn’t change the possibility that in a universe as vast and strange as ours … there still are probably other intelligences out there. And if they are “out there” – they seem bound to be … down here, eventually, if they aren’t here already.

This Coast to Coast interview was a very important piece of the Matrix of UFO Disinformation. I hope to publish a more comprehensive analysis of it in the near future. Perhaps we can interview Greg Bishop and pick his brains about the use of UFOs and related phenomena in covert operations and psychological warfare.

Tune in next time to see…

Ventana Del SoulTuesday, April 5th – IONS Austin presents …

Spiritual Cinema Night – “Fratello Sole, Sorella Luna” aka Brother Sun, Sister Moon. 6:30 pm Short Film / 7:15 pm Feature Film Begins.

This is a dramatization of events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi from before his conversion experience through his audience with the pope, including his friendship with St. Clare.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon focuses on the early years of Francis of Assisi, who sought communion with the natural world by renouncing his family’s riches to seek his own destiny unencumbered by material possessions. Francis was, in a sense, history’s first “drop-out”; he left a life of comfort to seek a spiritual union with the world. Brother Sun, Sister Moon is an uncommonly rewarding and meaningful film experience. This Academy Award® -nominated film was co-scripted by Lina Wertmuller and Franco Zeffirelli. • Museum Puts ‘Da Vinci Code’ on Trial in Leonardo’s HometownBy The Associated Press / February 19, 2005 / NYTimes.com
OME, Feb. 18 (AP) – Art experts and conservative clerics are holding an unusual trial in Leonardo da Vinci’s hometown, aimed at sorting out fact from fiction in “The Da Vinci Code” after many readers took the hit novel as gospel truth.

The event in Vinci, just outside Florence, began Friday with an opening statement by Alessandro Vezzosi, director of a Leonardo museum. He said he would produce photographs and documents as evidence of mistakes and historical inaccuracies contained in the book, in which secret societies, code-breaking, art history and religious cabals and lore all play a major role.

“Leonardo is misrepresented and belittled,” Mr. Vezzosi said in a telephone interview hours before the event began. “His importance is misunderstood. He was a man full of fantasy, inventions and genius.”

Mr. Vezzosi said he would produce evidence through 120 photographs based on documents and paintings with the aim of “reassessing and disclaiming the author” of the book, Dan Brown. Mr. Vezzosi said one example of the mistakes contained in the book is the statement that the Mona Lisa was made in Leonardo’s image.

Several of the book’s plot twists have provoked unprecedented protest among Roman Catholic and Protestant conservatives, who contended that the characters maligned Christianity and inaccurately characterized its history. Read More.

eNEWS FEATURE:

One of the most anticipated mainstream treatments of the UFO phenomena generated quite a buzz, with talk of it’s alleged focus upon physical trace cases and official eye-witness testimony. It was suggested by some that it would be distancing itself from the alien abduction sub-mileue of the overrall UFO phenomena. ABC apparently cut out the last interview footage shot of Harvard abduction researcher John Mack (before his recent untimely death at the hands of a drunk-driving Londoner). It is no surprise then that the airing of the special has created a heated and varied debate with reviews as broad as the many views held by different ufo researchers. Here are just a sample…

Budd Hopkins’ Response to the ABC Peter Jennings “Seeing is Believing” TV Program –
Courtesy of the Intruders Foundation

During the past year Jenning’s producers interviewed me a number of times, and because I sensed what they had in mind, I made, as a preemptive strike, a number of careful, highly specific observations about the UFO abduction phenomenon. All of these crucial points – recorded by ABC on videotape – were designed to underline the physical reality of UFO abductions and to demonstrate the implausibility of current skeptical explanations.

To its shame, ABC suppressed ALL of these observations.

And from the John Mack Institute …

The definitive special about alien life …has yet to be made.

by Will Bueche

Peter Jennings’ report on UFOs was awaited with much excitement by people such as myself who have an interest in the subject of alien contact – excitement which was only partially tempered by the unfortunate news that the final interview given by Harvard’s Dr. John Mack, a leading authority on the subject of alien contact, would not be presented in the finished program. Still, the potential for a powerful program remained, due to the high quality work which Peter Jennings Productions are known for. I duly tuned in the broadcast this evening.

It seems that the best of what Peter Jennings Productions (and the filmmakers at Springs Media) delivered was a strong 20 or 30 minute introduction to the UFO subject, and then (much later in the program) an all-too-brief couple of minutes of modern perspectives on how alien visitation could be possible (from internationally recognized authority in theoretical physics Dr. Michio Kaku).

The first segment persuasively argued that early investigations of flying saucers on the part of the Air Force or government were so weak as to be considered a squandered opportunity for knowledge. But from that segment on, the program seemed rather uninspired.

If the program had taken the lead of modern scientists such as Dr. Michio Kaku or Brian Greene this program could have been a grand statement about the current theories and ideas about ufos/alien encounters, and how we might investigate them if we apply this modern knowledge. I refer to knowledge which – as anyone who has looked into alien encounters would appreciate – involves theoretical physics’ insights into the structure of reality as well as theories of consciousness or, to put it more simply, theories of how perception of reality is affected by different states of consciousness.

Instead, modernity was given a couple good minutes of limelight (in the form of Dr. Kaku explaining how modern physics believes that seemingly vast distances between worlds could be crossed in an instant) followed by far too many people who are retreading theories of the 1970s – including present day researchers who are parroting theories from that era (the people from SETI, Harvard’s Dr. McNally, and – to be entirely fair – even some “pro” ufo folks).

If only Jennings’ program had been as fascinated by contemporary theories as they were by the early days of the UFO era. It was evidently not to be, and therefore this special was itself an opportunity squandered.

Sadly, the definitive special about alien life has yet to be made.

Very well-done. High production values, not sensationalized, and
quite intelligent. <snip>

All in all, an excellent addition to the documentary attempts to
address the question of UFOs.

ABC Jennings Special – Pt II

Kudos to Michio for pulling our theoretical irons out of the fire. Oddly enough, he was saying what is in the recently
published “Inflation” paper mentioned previously on this List:
we ought to examine UFO sightings on the off chance that one or
more might actually be evidence of a far advanced civilization.
As Kaku said: “Let the investigation begin.”

Meanwhile from the New York Times we get these gems … attempting to put Jennings’ decision to cover UFOs squarely in the category of ‘career advancement’ and ratings …

NYT – TV REVIEW | ‘PETER JENNINGS REPORTING’

An ABC Documentary Lands in U.F.O. Territory By ALESSANDRA STANLEY

During a sweeps month, U.F.O. is not solely an abbreviation for unidentified flying object. When a veteran network anchor devotes two hours to the subject in a special prime-time report, U.F.O. can also be code for uncontrollable fear of obscurity.

Tom Brokaw’s retirement as the NBC anchor did not drive viewers to ABC en masse; actually, the ratings of his replacement, Brian Williams, are higher than Peter Jennings’s. Even Dan Rather’s fall from grace and imminent retirement have not significantly benefited ABC’s “World News Tonight.” And that may help explain the mystery of why Mr. Jennings, ABC’s lofty and fastidious anchorman, chose to lend his gravitas to a lengthy examination of extraterrestrial life forms.

Space aliens are not particularly timely. Newspapers are not brimming with fresh reports of mass sightings of bright lights hovering over the Mojave Desert. Steven Spielberg does not have a sci-fi sequel, “Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind,” in the works. And no one would argue that this is a slow news period.

But the race for ratings is particularly intense in February. Mr. Jennings points out in his introduction that as many as 80 million Americans believe in U.F.O.’s and that 40 million say they have seen one or know someone who has. If even a fraction of those people turn to ABC tonight, “U.F.O.’s: Seeing Is Believing” could do for Mr. Jennings what more somber special reports like last June’s “Guantánamo Bay” could not.

Not that this special report is a day at the beach. Mr. Jennings applies the same solemn, impassive tone he used to examine Christianity in his special report “Jesus and Paul: The Word and the Witness” last April. He does not try to prove or debunk the existence of U.F.O.’s. Instead, he handles Ufology, as he refers to it, like a religion whose followers are numerous and steadfast enough to merit respectful treatment.

And that is not inappropriate. Ufology has many of the rites and rhythms of more traditional faiths, and the skeptic-turned-convert is a crucial element in any belief system. The millions of followers of Padre Pio, a 20th-century friar who was said to have had stigmata and supernatural powers and was canonized in 2002, bolster their case by pointing out that Father Maccari, a Vatican investigator sent to prove the friar a fraud, later recanted and prayed to Padre Pio on his deathbed (at least according to a Capuchin publication, “The Voice of Padre Pio”).

The documentary showcases a U.F.O. version of Father Maccari: J. Allen Hynek, an astrophysicist and a consultant for an Air Force project created in 1952 to assess U.F.O. reports. Early on, he dismissed witnesses as crackpots. He later repented and went on to found the Center for U.F.O. Studies in Illinois. He was one of the first scientists to give the study an aura of respectability. (Dr. Hynek came up with the phrase “close encounters of the third kind,” which Mr. Spielberg used for his film title.)

The history of U.F.O. sightings is interspersed with contemporary accounts by witnesses: housewives, pilots and truck drivers who do not look or sound like crackpots and who matter-of-factly describe what they saw that turned them into believers. (“It arched over the top of our car. …”) The most recent well-known incident was reported over Phoenix in 1997, when hundreds of people said they saw strange lights overhead that did not resemble an airplane or a helicopter. One man videotaped some of what he saw: a row of lights in the sky that he said were atop some kind of spaceship. The tape is not very distinct, however. Mostly, ABC uses animation to recreate what the witnesses say they saw.

The U.F.O. is a topic usually relegated to the tabloids, but Mr. Jennings gives the phenomenon his full consideration. “Seeing Is Believing” is not likely to create a new army of converts, but it may draw viewers who are already convinced and hungry for network affirmation: believing is seeing.

New York Times

Finally, we leave you with these angry words from Abductee and Researcher Whitley Strieber, via his on-line Journal Entry at UnknownCountry.com :

The Scum Rises: Peter Jennings on UFOs

The much heralded ABC special on UFOs has come and gone. Predictably, it was more of the same, a large number of lies sprinkled with a few truths. At least it wasn’t as relentlessly negative as such programs have generally been in the past. But people like Peter Jennings and his producers are cursed with the belief that they can understand—or already do understand—what they are looking at. The reality is that the UFO phenomenon is the most complex event in history, and a cursory examination of its surface by a few overworked and ill-informed television producers is not going to succeed in any way whatsoever to come to any truth about it.

They are filled with belief in their own competence, however. The result is that their efforts become an exercise in hubris. They end up making judgements based on inadequate information because they believe that what they have gathered is sufficient. But it is not sufficient, it only fulfills their expectations and serves their assumptions. That’s always where they stop, and it’s never enough.

  • New UFO book destined to create controversy! Project Beta, UFOs and official disinformation February 7, 2005 Phenomena MagazineBy Nick Redfern / Phenomena US Editor-in-ChiefGreg Bishop, the editor of the magazine The Excluded Middle, radio host, author and lecturer has just provided the field of UFO research with what is without doubt (in my opinion, at least) one of its finest and most important, published contributions. <snip>In essence, the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction book relates the fascinating and compelling story of New Mexico-based physicist Paul Bennewitz, who – after stumbling upon Air Force and National Security Agency secrets at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, that he believes are connected to the activities of sinister extraterrestrials forces flying around in their UFOs – is literally bombarded (both physically and electronically) with a mass of disinformation, faked stories and outright lies, all carefully provided to him by US Intelligence, with the express intent of diverting him from his research and leading him down the rocky path towards mental and psychological collapse. While I would urge both anyone and everyone with an interest in UFOs to read Greg’s book, it is very unlikely to please some readers – and particularly the I-want-to-believe crowd that foam at the mouth whenever the words “underground alien base,” “Roswell,” and “alien abductions” surface. As Greg carefully and skillfully demonstrates, many of the sacred cornerstones upon which much of today’s ufological lore are constructed, had their origins not in far-off corners of the galaxy, but in the fertile and imaginative minds of US military intelligence and the behind-the-scenes spook-brigade.

The UFO truth that has captivated so many for so long might not be “out there” after all – in fact, it may all be one big con behind which a veritable plethora of classified, military projects have been carefully hidden. www.PhenomaMagazine.com

  • The Gnostic Theory of Alien Intrusion
    January 29, 2005 Phenomena Magazine
By John Lash, Author of Metahistory.org – Since the explosion of the ET/UFO phenomena in 1947, speculation about alien intrusion on planet Earth has been rampant. Half a dozen theories dominate the debate, but there is one theory that has yet to be examined. It did not emerge after 1947, but approximately 1600 years earlier. To be precise, the evidence of this theory came to light through a discovery in Egypt in December, 1945, although the significance of the find was not realized until — guess when? 1947.In that year, French scholar Jean Doresse identified the Egyptian find at Nag Hammadi as a cache of rare Gnostic texts. “Gnosticism” is the label scholars use for a body of teachings derived from the Mystery Schools of pre-Christian antiquity. Gnostics who protested against Christian doctrines such as divine retribution and Christ’s resurrection found themselves targeted as heretics and were brutally suppressed by early converts to the One True Faith. This is the untold story of how the Mysteries ended. Since that signal year, 1947, some of the lost Mystery School knowledge has been recovered. www.PhenomenaMagazine.com
  • Chemtrails: A Fortean View –
A New Look at a Mystery of the Skies

January 22, 2005 Phenomena Magazine

By Colin Bennett / Phenomena Contributor

The so-called “chemtrails” that are seen almost everywhere in the skies of the world are an incredible phenomenon of our time, if only because like UFO sightings, the broad span of social, political, and intellectual life of major nations largely ignores such things utterly. Even those with imagination (artists, playwrights, novelists, poets) ignore such anomalistic things as UFOs and chemtrails, even though they offer images, symbols, metaphors, intrigue, mysterious technology, and much more besides! www.PhenomaMagazine.com

By J. Deardorff, B. Haisch, B. Maccabee and H.E. Puthoff, Journal of the British Interplanetary Society (JBIS), Jan. 05 – 1/18/2005

“This appears to be the first article on the UFO topic published in a mainstream scientific journal since 1980.” (Bernard Haisch) In this paper, published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society (JBIS), the authors “reexamine and reevaluate the present assumption that extraterrestrials or their probes are not in the vicinity of Earth, and argue instead that some evidence of their presence might be found in certain high-quality UFO reports.” Authors of the article are J. Deardorff, B. Haisch, B. Maccabee and H.E. Puthoff. www.UFOEvidence.com

eNEWS FEATURE: “A Look Back…” – 2004 saw a number of milestones for the Anomaly Archives lending library:

  • April 2004 marked the launch of our Free Public Lecture series with author Adam Gorightly presenting research documented in his book, The Prankster and the Conspiracy: The Story of Kerry Thornley and How He Met Oswald and Inspired the Counterculture. The Prankster and the Conspiracy details the life of one of the 1960s counterculture’s most fascinating characters — Kerry Wendell Thornley, a writer, philosopher, Zen dishwasher, enlightened prankster, and, possibly, an Oswald double with disturbing ties to the Kennedy assassination.

  • In June 2004, the Human Potential Center, INACS (Institute for Neuroscience And Consciousness Studies) and the Anomaly Archives co-sponsored a Summer Consciousness Community Picnic and Book Raising for the IONS Austin community group. This event celebrated the official partnering of IONS Austin with the Anomaly Archives and raised an initial IONS Austin library of over 75 books on mind body connections and other areas of consciousness research. A good time was had by all as folks explored the Human Potential Campus under sunny skies.
  • Throughout 2004, Archives founder SMiles Lewis promoted SAI’s lending library on weekly local radio programs including the Thursday edition of the KOOP Evening News (Thursdays from 5:30-6pm on 91.7fm), Liberated Space with Angela Keaton and Progressive Forum with Harry Ashburn.
  • SMiles also promoted the Archives at events around the State including Texas’ two annual cryptozoological conferences, Chester Moore Jr.’s Southern Crypto Conference in Conroe and the Texas Bigfoot Research Conference in Jefferson.
