ANOMALY ARCHIVES eNEWSLETTER – Jan / Feb / March, 2006
New Hours of Operation & On-Site Volunteer
Greetings fellow Anomalists. It’s been a while since we sent out an issue of the Anomaly Archives eNewsletter. We apologize for the delay.
We’d like you to welcome our New Volunteer On-Site Assistant Curator, JP Smith. “JP“, as he likes to be called, is a producer and writer (and a founder of SONAV Productions) who recently successfully presented his play, Among The Sand And Smog, at this year’s Frontera Fest.
I was lucky enough to see the last showing at The Blue Theatre where it played to a sell out crowd. By the end of the show there wasn’t a dry eye in the packed house.
“One of the world’s darkest secrets is hiding right next door. Since the early 1990’s, factory workers and other young women of the city of Juarez have been disappearing off the streets, to be discovered later lifeless in the desert, or sometimes not at all. Now, more than 13 years later, over 300 women have been brutally raped and murdered, the culprits remain at large and unknown, and a city mourns while a nation and the world ignores it. Told in three acts, and starring some of the finest talent in Austin, Among the Sand and Smog is sure to move and shock you as it explores one of this hemisphere’s most forgotten tragedies.”
“JP” now resides on-site and can help you access the Anomaly Archives lending library Monday through Friday from 11am to 4pm plus extended hours of operation from 5 to 9 pm Tuesday nights and from 1 to 5 pm Saturday afternoons. You can also usually find the library open Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.
If you want to come by the Anomaly Archives during the weekday hours of 11 am to 4 pm you should call ahead and speak with JP at the Human Potential Center at …
(512) 441-8988 or email him.
Now to hear from JP in his own words …
To the Membership of the Anomaly Archives lending library:
I wanted to write a letter to all of the library members so I can introduce myself and let you know about where the library wants to head in the following months. My name is J. P. Smith and I am thoroughly enjoying my position as volunteer assistant curator. I also work at The Human Potential Center as the marketing and development director. My true love is writing, I have been training to be a professional writer for over 10 years, focusing mainly on theatrical and cinematic works. I run a small production company that recently participated in Fronterafest’s Long Fringe Festival, and the show I wrote, Among the Sand and Smog, sold out the Blue Theater. I hope to use my talents to help the library in as many ways as possible. One future work that I will be doing is a stage work based on the inventions and life of Nikola Tesla, a work that I would very much like to come out of my times at the library.
One thing that I wanted to talk about is the current needs of the library. We are looking to acquire some new equipment so that we can continue growing, becoming an even better center for research and development of our respective fields of interest. Here is a list of the things that we want to see added to our collection:
Bookshelves: Preferable size is about 5′ x 5′ x 1″ to match what we already have, although any size will do.
Filing Cabinets: A lot of materials we house are documents, photos, etc that do not fit well on shelves, we want to add these to our collections and house them in filing cabinets.
Magazine Holders: Similarly, we need to find a good way to store and organize the many periodicals that we have in the collections. Magazine racks and/or cardboard magazine holders would be perfect.
Labeling Materials: For labeling and categorizing the collections.
If anyone has access to these, we would very much appreciate the donations. Feel free to think “out of the box” on these as well. Miles told me that our current bookshelves were actually racks from a shoe store that went out of business, I think that is great! This type of thinking will be most crucial in the following months, as we try to grow and increase our membership of readers.
I look forward to meeting the various organizations, their leaders and members. Please feel free to contact me at my contact info below, f.y.i. email is the best.
Sincerely,
JP Smith

Austin Noetic Sciences – Merging Mind and Matter: A New Model: A presentation by Katya Walker, Ph.D.
Tuesday, March 14th, 2006
6:30p-8:30p
Austin History Center
810 Guadalupe Street
Visitors are welcome, the meeting is free – book donations are welcome.
The present model of the universe in physics leaves much to be desired. The relationship between physical reality and mind is also a big conundrum. This talk uses a slide show to pinpoint flaws in the current model of cosmology for physics and the current inability of physics to account for mind.
Katya Walter, Ph.D., presents a new model of cosmology that merges mind and matter and offers a new way to view the universe. Come prepared to be stimulated, offended, delighted, and amused.
Katya Walter has an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and studied for five years at the Jung Institute in Zurich and in China for a year. She taught in colleges and universities in the United States and China for sixteen years. She has published in scientific, social, and literary analysis, African cosmology, poetry, and short fiction. She has written two books, Tao of Chaos and Dream Mail, and is featured on The Oracle of Changes computer disk by Visionary Networks. Dr. Walter currently writes, lectures, does workshops, and sees clients in dream interpretation work in Austin, Texas.

Cost: $30 / For tickets call the Unity Church Bookstore (972) 233-7106 ext. 220
On Jan. 31, 1971, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, then a U.S. Navy captain, embarked on a journey through outer space of some 500,000 miles. That historical journey ended safely nine days later on Feb. 9, and resulted in his becoming the sixth man to walk on the moon. Admiral Alan Sheppard and Colonel Stuart Roosa were the other two men of valor, accompanying him to make the journey possible.
On Sunday Dr. Mitchell will provide an overview of his work in consciousness research, including results of frontier experiments at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and in Europe. Audience participation and questions will be a significant part of the workshop.
He is the author of Psychic Exploration: A Challenge for Science and The Way of the Explorer. As a lecturer, he! delivers 25-30 addresses annually on cosmology, human potential and topics relating to the evolving future of the species on planet Earth. His most current lecture series discusses the implications of recent discoveries in science as they affect our individual lives in the home, workplace and society-at-large. Dr. Mitchell’s honors and awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, USN Distinguished Service Medal, NASA Distinguished Service Medal, NASA Group Achievement Award (three times), Explorers Club Man of the Year, Legion of Goodwill, Hors Concours Award and an induction to the Space Hall of Fame.
“Suddenly from behind the rim of the moon, long, slow-motion moments of immense majesty, there emerges a sparkling blue and white jewel, a light, delicate sky blue sphere laced with slow swirling veils of white, rising gradually like a small pearl in a thick sea of black mystery—It takes more than a moment to fully realize this is Earth—home.”

about the value of journalist John Keel‘s contribution to UFO research. Many of the field’s best known writers and researchers were lambasting Keel who has been known for quite some time as “not being afraid to invent evidence”. Yet it appears that it was he who first wrote of the possibility that the 1947 Roswell crash was in fact a Fugo balloon. John Keel wrote about this theory in the March 1990 issue of FATE magazine.

A Special UFO Conference: UFOs – The Full Spectrum
ANOMALY ARCHIVES eNEWS
Hello and welcome to another Anomaly Archives eNews Podcast. Last month I made the trek to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for the annual Ozark UFO Conference. I’d been wanting to attend this legendary event for some time and finally made it. The lectures and people rejuvinated my love of UFO conferences and anomalous studies. (See this issue’s Features section for a brief review of the lectures.)
But what warmed my heart even more about the conference was that it became a sort of Austin MUFON Reunion for me and others. Austin MUFON alumni Monte and Ellen Stuart were in attendance – as I should have expected since they had always talked of attending so many of the past Ozark conferences. They moved to Illinois over four years ago and I’d not really interacted much with them since they left. Also present was Houston, Texas MUFONite Andy Abercrombie whose company is always entertaining. All of these old friends said they will likely be visiting Austin in June for the upcoming Anomaly Archives event, the Texas Ghost Lights Conference featuring Paul Devereux and other spook light researchers.

Anomaly Archives’ Paul Devereux Collection
Since the Anomaly Archives is helping present the upcoming Texas Ghost Lights Conference in June, we thought you’d like to know what resources the Anomaly Archives has on the various presenters scheduled to appear at this six hour workshop. Legendary British Earth Mysteries researcher Paul Devereux is our keynote speaker for this event. Paul’s works occupy a special place within the Anomaly Archives and my own personal take on UFOs and related phenomena. Here are a few of his books that we have available for check out from the Archives collection. Check out Paul’s website for more information on his many areas of research. <

NANCY TALBOTT, “Crop Circles: Evidence and Seduction” – Yet again I was reminded of how warm and fuzzy hardcore scientific anomalies research makes me. Nancy Talbott is one of the leading scientific investigators into the mystery of AgriGlyphs or Crop Circles. It was at that same La Jolla SSI anomaly conference I mentioned earlier that I last saw anyone present evidence related to the scientific investigation of this strange phenomenon. The SSI conference in 2001 included a talk by William C. Levengood who was then working with Nancy Talbott. They have since parted ways. Most of the research Nancy has coordinated through the BLT Research group is available online at their official website,

Proceedings of the First International UFO Congress by Curtis G. Fuller. I’d never even heard of this conference, let alone the book covering the event proceedings. This looks like a fantastic resource snapshot of leading edge thoughts on UFOs circa 1980. There is even a huge section, “Part Six: UFOs as Mind Phenomena” wherein Stan Friedman admits to psychological factors but insists on the nuts and bolts reality of the phenomena. Elsewhere Jacques Vallee apparently reflects on the UFO as a sort of “paranormal software.” Other presentors include Kenneth Arnold, James A. Harder, Ted Philips, Frank B. Salisbury, David M. Jacobs, Jerome Clark, J. Allen Hynek, Ted Bloecher, Betty Hill, Alvin H. Lawson, Curtis Fuller, Jim Lorenzen, David Stupple, R. Leo Sprinkle, Berthold Eric Schwartz, and J. Gordan Melton.

NASA Researchers Claim Evidence of Present Life on Mars By Brian Berger / Space News Staff Writer /
NASA Statement on False Claim of Evidence of Life on Mars News reports on February 16, 2005, that NASA scientists from Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., have found strong evidence that life may exist on Mars are incorrect.NASA does not have any observational data from any current Mars missions that supports this claim. The work by the scientists mentioned in the reports cannot be used to directly infer anything about life on Mars, but may help formulate the strategy for how to search for martian life. Their research concerns extreme environments on Earth as analogs of possible environments on Mars. No research paper has been submitted by them to any scientific journal asserting martian life.
One of the most anticipated mainstream treatments of the UFO phenomena generated quite a buzz, with talk of it’s alleged focus upon physical trace cases and official eye-witness testimony. It was suggested by some that it would be distancing itself from the alien abduction sub-mileue of the overrall UFO phenomena. ABC apparently cut out the last interview footage shot of Harvard abduction researcher John Mack (before his recent untimely death at the hands of a drunk-driving Londoner). It is no surprise then that the airing of the special has created a heated and varied debate with reviews as broad as the many views held by different ufo researchers. Here are just a sample…

The Scum Rises: Peter Jennings on UFOs
The much heralded ABC special on UFOs has come and gone. Predictably, it was more of the same, a large number of lies sprinkled with a few truths. At least it wasn’t as relentlessly negative as such programs have generally been in the past. But people like Peter Jennings and his producers are cursed with the belief that they can understand—or already do understand—what they are looking at. The reality is that the UFO phenomenon is the most complex event in history, and a cursory examination of its surface by a few overworked and ill-informed television producers is not going to succeed in any way whatsoever to come to any truth about it.

While I would urge both anyone and everyone with an interest in UFOs to read Greg’s book, it is very unlikely to please some readers – and particularly the I-want-to-believe crowd that foam at the mouth whenever the words “underground alien base,” “Roswell,” and “alien abductions” surface. As Greg carefully and skillfully demonstrates, many of the sacred cornerstones upon which much of today’s ufological lore are constructed, had their origins not in far-off corners of the galaxy, but in the fertile and imaginative minds of US military intelligence and the behind-the-scenes spook-brigade.
The Gnostic Theory of Alien Intrusion
Egypt in December, 1945, although the significance of the find was not realized until — guess when? 1947.In that year, French scholar Jean Doresse identified the Egyptian find at Nag Hammadi as a cache of rare Gnostic texts. “Gnosticism” is the label scholars use for a body of teachings derived from the Mystery Schools of pre-Christian antiquity. Gnostics who protested against Christian doctrines such as divine retribution and Christ’s resurrection found themselves targeted as heretics and were brutally suppressed by early converts to the One True Faith. This is the untold story of how the Mysteries ended. Since that signal year, 1947, some of the lost Mystery School knowledge has been recovered.
