DIRECTIONS to The Anomaly Archives

It’s a little tricky to find the first time, so here are the directions:

If you’re heading northwest on Research/183 from I-35, Mopac or 360, exit 183 at the Oak Knoll exit, pass through the light at Oak Knoll, and stay on the access road heading north. The next side street off the 183 access road will be Technology Blvd; do not turn on Technology. Immediately after you pass Technology, there will be a driveway on your right (the only one in that area) — Exit into that driveway. There will be a sign overhead for “Forest Plaza.” After you pull in, you’ll have no choice but to go to the left into Forest Plaza. Our building is the back left building within the complex — Suite 302. If you’re heading south on Research/183, you also exit at Oak Knoll, but take the u-turn just before you get to Oak Knoll, get over the right on the northbound access road, and prepare to make the right immediately after Technology Blvd. as in the directions above.

Questions to be explored will include:

  • What is the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience (OBE)?
  • Do the experiences overlap in any way, and how are they different?
  • How might a conceptual framework of consciousness explain what is happening during OBE’s, lucid dreams, and other psychic experiences?
  • What do lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience reveal about the nature of consciousness and the nature of reality?
  • Can most people learn to explore these states?  If so, how?
  • Are there any potential dangers in exploring lucid dreams and OBE’s?  What type of precautions should be taken?
  • What are the potential benefits of lucid dreaming and OBE for the individual, society, and humanity?

Photo of Robert Price, PhDRobert Price (moderator) is a clinical psychologist with strong research and personal interests in sleep and dreaming, lucid dreaming, meditation, altered states of consciousness, human bioenergies, and the nature of reality. He believes that personal and scientific exploration of these states can greatly expand our understanding of the potential of the human mind.

While a graduate student at the University of Texas in Austin, Dr. Price managed the sleep laboratory.  During that time, he conducted sleep lab studies of REM sleep auditory biofeedback, the narrative structure of dreams, lucid dreaming, eye movement signaling techniques, and frequent nightmare experience. Price has published several articles on these subjects, including a chapter on lucid dream induction, and has presented his research at scientific conferences.  This intensive study of lucid dreaming triggered a number of extremely vivid lucid dreams that had a profound impact on Price’s view of human consciousness, dreaming, and OBE. <More…>

Two Amazing Free Events Tonight: Color, Consciousness, Healing and Clairvoyants in Law Enforcement

Two very interesting events are happening tonight that we thought followers of the Anomaly Archives might want to attend:

 Color, Consciousness, and Healing with Leanne Venier

LeanneVenier_thumbThe Healing Effects of Color, Light Frequencies, and Art
Presented by Leanne Venier, BSME, MSOM
Co-hosted by INACS & IONS Austin
Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 6:30 p.m.
Austin Center for Spiritual Living
5555 N Lamar Blvd, Bldg D #115
Free and open to the public

Award-winning artist, scientist, and color therapist Leanne Venier will discuss the healing effects of color, light frequencies, and art and how these relate to elevated consciousness. The talk will include:

  • How our bodies absorb and use color and light frequencies;
  • Latest scientific research and current medical applications for treating cancer and other illnesses using color and light;
  • New studies and technology that support healing of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, autism, and other diseases and disorders;
  • The science behind the healing effects of certain types of artwork;
  • Why we need all the color frequencies found naturally in sunlight for optimum health;
  • What are biophotons and why they are so important to optimal health and wellbeing;
  • How color and consciousness are connected;
  • Color attributes and how we can use them every day to prevent and heal illness. (Samples of Venier’s artwork will be on display for experiential purposes.)

“I’ve always been interested in how various colors are tied into our psyche and, more importantly, how they affect us on the physical and emotional levels,” says Venier. “We are, in fact, so influenced by color that by simply noticing which colors we’re drawn to at any given time, we can gain insight into where and how we need to bring balance back into our lives.”

Leanne Venier was a mechanical engineer designing submarines until a lifelong passion for healing and knowledge about consciousness drew her to the healing arts. This journey took her to Italy for seven years and back to the United States for advanced training as an acupuncturist and shiatsu practitioner. Six years ago, Venier started painting and left her healing practice to begin working as a professional artist. It is from this diverse background that Venier will present data gathered from 70 years of scientific research into the healing effects of color, light frequencies, and art.

Venier has exhibited her artwork and lectured at major medical centers on the healing effects of color and light frequencies and their role in medicine. She has been interviewed on Austin’s KUT and KOOP radio stations as well as WOAI-TV’s San Antonio Living Show (above) in regard to her artwork and its role in using color to heal. She has also served as a color healing consultant for the Austin State Hospital and conducted workshops on the healing effects of color for UT Medicine’s Cancer Therapy & Research Center in San Antonio.

Exploring the Evolutionary Transformation of Authority from Patriarchy to Individualism
Presented by Mark Sebesta, MSCE, PE
Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 6:30 p.m.
Austin Center for Spiritual Living
5555 N. Lamar Blvd., Ste. D-115 (map)
Free and open to the public

We will look at how an individual’s personality is influenced during childhood by his caregivers, and ultimately by our patriarchal society through identification, modeling, and shame. The patriarchal structure itself will be then be examined along with specific modes of influence in our society including politics, monetary policy, war, and media. We will look at the specific ways that are being used throughout the world to claim personal authority from the patriarchy, and transform ourselves and our society, in this period of evolutionary change.

The meeting will consist of Sebesta’s lecture interspersed with questions and comments from the audience. This topic is timely with society in turmoil and many of us looking for answers. The learned in this area espouse that a heightening of “consciousness awareness” and love is the answer.

The presentation will offer specific solutions including a shift toward matriarchy at the social level,  cultivation of conscious awareness and inner authority, building a support system, using one’s talents in cooparation with others, and focusing on sustainability.

Mark Sebesta grew up in Denver, Colorado, and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder,  where he received a BS and MS in Civil Engineering.  In 1993, he moved to The Woodlands, Texas, where he was introduced to the work of Carl Jung at the Jung Center in Houston.  He then moved to Austin in 1999 and served as president of the Jung Society of Austin for four years.  He has been a practicing engineer for 28 years. In 2003, he became interested in politics in the run up to the Iraq war and is currently exploring the connection between politics and consciousness.  Sebesta is also a petition signer and volunteer for Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth.

William Gibson: Fortean!

Cyberpunk Fortean William Gibson

 “I’m Totally a Fortean!” (Audio)

“It’s always a pleasure to return to Austin, which in some weird way was definitely the epicenter of my literary career, such as it’s been.”

On Thursday, September 6th, I had the pleasure of finally seeing William Gibson in-the-flesh. Despite his being sick with a cold (he offered to infect any attendees with it who might’ve had such a Cronenbergian desire) Gibson read an interesting piece from his new book, Distrust That Particular Flavor, and regaled the audience with his observations on a few subjects including fashion.

It’s weird, really weird reading any of this stuff because I never read any of it before. I never read it to an audience. These were written for magazine publication. The weirdest of these, I think, the one that is most mysterious to me is an essay called Dead Man Sings that I wrote in 1998 for ASAP, which is a Forbes magazine giveaway or something. … they got in touch with me and said ‘we’d like you to write something’ and I said ‘what’ and they said ‘it doesn’t matter … [write] what you feel like.’ I’d never really gotten that before … so I really took it to heart and I sat down and sort of channeled this thing I’m about to read you and with no idea where it was coming from or really what it was about. I realized, when I was going through all these pieces, this is the one I’ve gone back to more in my writing and as sometimes happens, I think that this thing which I wrote without understanding – I wrote it in a weird kind of trance – because it didn’t matter and it had given me permission to say whatever I wanted to say, which I had never had before in non-fiction. … So this thing just came out, what I’m about to read to you, and its probably the one thing in this book that I discovered more in, over the years, since I wrote it, I suspect in some way its been the program for a lot of the fiction I’ve written since.

The essay Dead Man Sings (published as “Dead Man Speaks apparently) that Gibson read for us that evening is certainly evocative of much of what makes Gibson’s writings so telling and important. Distrust That Particular Flavor coverThey grapple with the effects of technology on our culture and our experiencing of memory and history. It reminded me of a video I’d recently seen of him (filmed many years ago inside a moving car) in which he reflects on one of the details he mentioned in the essay, that is the invention of the sound recording and that period of time when there were still humans (backwoods Appalachian Americans in his example) who were being recorded for the first time and the fundamental difference (to his hears) of those recordings to everything since.

We live in, have lived through, a strange time. I know this because when I was a child the flow of forgetting was relatively unimpeded. I know this because the dead were less of a constant presence, then. Because there was once no rewind button. Because the soldiers dying in the Somme were black and white, and did not run as the living run. Because the world’s attic was still untidy. Because there were old men in the mountain valleys of my Virginia childhood who remembered a time before recorded music.

Dead Man Speaks

After the reading (and towards the end of his face-time with us and before beginning the autographing line) there was an opening for me to ask him a question that had been on my mind for a while… But before I asked the question I wanted to show my sincere feelings for the words he’d written a couple of years ago when he posted the following to his twitter feed:

“Very sad to learn of the death of @mactonnies. Whip-smart young Fortean surrealist dudes are too thin on the ground to begin with.”
twitter.com/GreatDismal/status/5096995349

As I began expressing my thanks the look on his face gave me the impression that he hadn’t understood what I was saying – perhaps it was just the idea of someone thanking him for a “tweet” (let alone one from three years ago) that struck him as odd. Once I’d shifted my comment to a question he gave a not surprising to me reply which I’m happy to add to the public record:

SMiles Lewis: I’d like to thank you for your 2009 tweet which consisted of kind words on the passing of Mac Tonnies. There’s things in your book Pattern Recognition and other books that make me ask this question: Are you now or have you ever been a Fortean?

William Gibson: Oh, I’m totally a Fortean! I’ve been a Fortean since I was… actually I’d have to find out. I’ve been a Fortean ever since Ace Books republished Charles Fort’s three great weird philosophical books about strange shit that he’d found in old old newspapers. And I continue to be … That’s Charles Fort for those of you who don’t know him. If you wanna have a really strange experience go find The Book of the Damned by Charles Fort which was published in the 1920s and has two sequels. It’s kind of the mother of all X-Files stuff.

Free Lecture with Nick Redfern on The Pyramids and the Pentagon

The Anomaly Archives Presents:

A Free Lecture With Nick Redfern

The Pyramids and the Pentagon:

The Government’s Top Secret Pursuit of Mystical Relics, Ancient Astronauts, and Lost Civilizations

Austin, Texas – Saturday, September 29th, 7-9pm CST

ACSL – Austin Center for Spiritual Living at
5555 North Lamar, Suite D-117

The Pyramids and the Pentagon is a detailed study of how and why government agencies have, for decades, taken a clandestine and profound interest in numerous archeological, historical, and religious puzzles. Focusing primarily upon the classified work of the U.S. Government, The Pyramids and the Pentagon invites you to take a wild ride into the fog-shrouded past. It’s a ride that incorporates highlights such as:

  • The CIA’s top-secret files on Noah’s Ark
  • U.S. Army documents positing that the Egyptian Pyramids were constructed via levitation
  • Disturbing military encounters with Middle Eastern djinns
  • Claims of nuclear warfare in ancient India
  • Links between the Face on Mars and the pharaohs
  • And many more
Nick Redfern’s The Pyramids and the Pentagon clearly and provocatively demonstrates that deep and dark conspiracies exist within the shadowy world of officialdom–conspiracies that have the ability to rock the foundations of civilization, religion, and history to their very core. The strange and amazing secrets of the past are just a heavily guarded government vault away.
