The Yogurt Shop Murders: When False Confessions Hide the Real Killer

# Anomaly Now: Austin’s Yogurt Shop Murders Finally Solved After 33 Years

**The shocking resolution to one of Austin’s most haunting cold cases takes center stage as host Smiles Lewis breaks down the 33-year journey to justice.**

In this emotionally charged episode, Lewis—himself a mass shooting survivor—tackles the brutal 1991 yogurt shop murders that claimed four teenage girls’ lives. The case, which traumatized Austin and exemplified poor police practices, finally found resolution through advanced genetic testing. **The perpetrator was identified as a serial pedophile who committed suicide in 1999, denying families their long-awaited day in court.**

The discussion expands beyond Austin to examine disturbing patterns across America, including:

– **Misleading media coverage** of the Nellis Air Force Base shooting falsely linked to Area 51

– **Growing serial killer fears** in Texas cities where bodies are appearing in waterways

– **Weekend mass shootings** with anomalous details, including a Mormon church attacker who brought his dog to the crime scene

– **”Ghost drones”** plaguing European airports, drawing parallels to post-war UFO phenomena

Lewis also explores the psychological concept of contagious suicidal ideation and its violent manifestations, connecting historical patterns to modern tragedies.

**Ready to dive deep into these unsettling anomalies? Listen to the full episode for Lewis’s expert analysis of these interconnected mysteries.**

  • The Austin yogurt shop murders case was “solved” through false confessions and wrongful convictions caused by poor police work, not actual evidence—the real perpetrator was only identified years later through improved forensics after he had already died by suicide in 1999.

  • There are concerning patterns of potential serial killers operating near waterways across Texas that aren’t receiving adequate attention or investigation from authorities.

  • A recent mass shooting at a Mormon church involved the highly unusual detail of the shooter bringing his dog to the attack, suggesting psychological complexities that differ from typical mass shooting profiles.

Smiles Lewis hosts Anomaly Now from Austin, Texas, representing the Scientific Anomaly Institute. After missing the previous week’s show for Tui Snyder’s lecture on global grave travels, Lewis addresses the shocking resolution of Austin’s infamous 1991 yogurt shop murders case. As a childhood mass shooting survivor from San Antonio in 1979, Lewis acknowledges the emotional weight of covering such grisly true crime content. The case involved four teenage girls who were brutally murdered, raped, and burned, shocking the community and nation for over three decades with false confessions and investigative challenges. The host discusses the 1991 Austin yogurt shop murders that killed four teenage girls, including Eliza Thomas, whose sister Sonora spoke tearfully at a recent press conference. The case traumatized the community and exemplified poor police investigation practices, with multiple innocent Mexican and local young men being tortured and coerced into false confessions. One man was even sent to death row before cases were overturned due to lack of physical evidence. The host, a mass shooting survivor himself, notes that improved genetic testing and ballistic forensics finally led to identifying the perpetrator – a serial pedophile who committed suicide in 1999, denying families their day in court. The podcast discusses several concerning incidents, including misleading media coverage of a September 24th shooting at Nellis Air Force Base that was sensationally linked to Area 51 despite being far from the actual location. The speakers address growing fears about possible serial killers in both Austin and Houston, Texas, where bodies are being discovered in waterways near entertainment districts. They also cover a bizarre 2020 case where a Texas man was ordered to pay $2.8 million to teenagers he shot at while they were ghost hunting at Devil’s Lagoon, highlighting concerning patterns of violence and media sensationalism. The speaker discusses the concerning phenomenon of contagious suicidal ideation and its violent externalization, referencing concepts like the Twilight Language and Werther Effect. They analyze a recent weekend that saw multiple mass shootings across the United States, focusing particularly on incidents at a Mormon church in Michigan and a beachside bar in North Carolina. The speaker notes anomalous details, specifically that the Mormon church shooter was reportedly accompanied by a black dog, a detail they found buried in local news sources but largely ignored by mainstream media. Both shooters were allegedly military veterans suffering from PTSD, with the church shooter having expressed anti-Mormon sentiments to acquaintances. The speaker analyzes disturbing details from two recent mass violence incidents, noting unusual anomalies. In the Grand Blanc church attack, they highlight the unprecedented detail of the perpetrator apparently bringing his dog to the crime scene, visible in news footage showing the black dog in the truck used during the attack. They also discuss the North Carolina Southport boat shooting as another first-time anomaly, comparing it to the Oslo Norway attack where a shooter used a boat to reach victims. The speaker then shifts to discussing Secret Service dismantling thousands of SIM cards in New York City, connecting this to UFO-related communication disruption theories from the Robertson panel and ongoing mystery drone sightings over European airports. Miguel Romero discusses the parallels between current drone sightings across Europe and the United States with historical UFO phenomena. He draws comparisons to the post-war “ghost rockets” seen over Norway and Sweden, which were initially attributed to Russians, coining the term “ghost drones” for today’s mysterious aircraft. The speaker also touches on various cryptozoology topics, including the “Carolina Crawler” incident and connections to the fictional “rake” creature that emerged online after the 2005 film “The Descent,” suggesting ongoing public fascination with unexplained phenomena across different eras. The host discusses a 1993 Northern Exposure episode that uniquely addressed UFOs, featuring conservative former astronaut Maurice Minifield who discovers a homeless veteran became destitute after witnessing unexplained lights. Maurice’s advice is to forget about bizarre experiences or they’ll ruin your life. The host then shifts to local Austin politics, describing controversy over AI-enabled surveillance cameras and alleged city council procedural issues where public hearings were reportedly moved with minimal notice, making it difficult for citizens to participate. Despite criticisms of longtime Austin mayor Kirk Watson, the host acknowledges his sense of humor during recent proceedings. The speaker concludes their discussion by referencing a mayor’s opening remarks from a recent city council meeting, where the mayor appeared to anticipate disruptions or protests from attendees who might speak out of turn. The speaker seems to have found this anticipatory statement noteworthy or concerning enough to highlight it as their closing point. They then wrap up what appears to be their own broadcast or podcast episode, thanking their audience for listening and bidding them goodnight.

Hello, welcome to another edition of Anomaly Now, straight out of Austin, Texas. I am your host, Smiles Lewis. This is the weekly, sometimes live, news and media roundup for the nonprofit 501C3 Scientific Anomaly Institute, aka the Anomaly Archives, located here in Austin, Texas. Well, folks, it’s been quite a week. Just briefly, you know, last week, we didn’t have a show because we were pleasantly having our good friend Tui Snyder present her travel tombstones and transformation lecture slideshow tales from her travels around the world in 80 graves.

from her travels around the world in 80 graves. That was a lot of fun. We hope you enjoyed it. If you would like to watch that, you can join our, you can become a patron by going to patreon .com slash. anomaly archives and if you join a certain tier or higher that’s the anomaly academy cadet tier you get access to each month’s new live online lecture as well as the growing back catalog of past lectures please check that out you can of course go to our website anomalyarchives .org and find out more about that and you can go to our flipboard flipboard .com slash at anomaly archives and click through to the thousands and thousands and thousands of news articles that we’ve collected over the many many years the anomaly archives was founded in 2003 and so we are celebrating our 22nd or third or whatever year but as i say last week this past week has just been a bit intense it was late friday afternoon when i said out loud oh my god and i saw the headline announcing the infamous 1991 yogurt shop murders had been quote unquote solved finally. And as I watched a breaking news clip about that, they assured us in the news clip that the families had been informed of this before the media were informed and that a press conference was scheduled for the following Monday. yesterday today i’m recording this on tuesday the end of september it’s not actually october 1st yet but that’s when this will air and so for the second time in the same week i tuned into city council chambers to watch something of import and yeah wow for those who aren’t familiar this was a very terrible terrible crime and i’ve got to apologize in

those who aren’t familiar this was a very terrible terrible crime and i’ve got to apologize in in advance of tonight’s episode. This is going to be… We’re going to focus on a lot more grisly true crime incidents today for this show. For those of you who followed me, you know that I am a survivor of a mass shooting from my childhood when I was still in elementary school and there was a sniper at the… Battle of the Flowers Fiesta Parade in San Antonio, Texas in 1979. Thankfully,

only a few people were murdered, but many people were injured and many more were traumatized. This was, of course, before school shootings and rage mass attacks had not become the norm. Anyway, in 1991, there was multiple murders for Young teenage girls here in Austin, Texas, were murdered brutally, and they and their environment set on fire. Later, it emerged slowly that they had been raped, and the details of that grisly crime shocked not just the city, but the country. And it’s been a long and strange saga ever since. I recently watched the HBO… docuseries about this horrible crime. And there was so much I had forgotten and so much I never knew about the investigations and the ups and downs and the false confessions and the coerced confessions, multiple coerced confessions. And that docuseries ends with no resolution, but it was focused on

docuseries ends with no resolution, but it was focused on The victims, the family members, the survivors, the grief of those families and the community and how it affected all of us. Well,

just this week, Monday, there was a big press conference held finally. And I was going to play a couple of clips from this and it’s pretty emotional, folks.

Here is Mary Kirk Watson’s introduction.

Yes. While there’s still a lot to digest and process, this is a big deal for Austinites, especially those of us who’ve been here for so long. One of the most powerful parts of the docuseries that I watched on HBO featured the younger sister, Sonora Thomas, of Eliza Thomas, the sister of Eliza Thomas, who was one of the victims in the murders. She has gone on to become a therapist and is obviously an incredibly eloquent and thoughtful person and trying to make the world a better place. And I wanted to play just a few, it’s about four minutes. of her very tearful comments.

And that was Sonora Thomas, as I said, the sister of the murdered Eliza Thomas, one of the four teenage girls murdered here in Austin in 1991. That murder, those murders, that crime, that terror attack against this community really traumatized everyone. And it is an example of some of the worst aspects of police investigations that one can learn from in terms of trying to force evidence, trying to force the pieces to make sense, trying to find a scapegoat.

Multiple… Mexican young men were tortured and coerced by federal Mexican officials into confessing. Multiple local young men here in Austin were coerced into confessing and ended up being convicted, one going to death row, and thankfully those cases being overturned and never with a shred of physical evidence linking them. And as the technology improved for genetic testing, that’s part of what has led us to finally, seemingly getting to the bottom of this case. That and these bullet casings, the ballistic forensics, the whole story is very complicated and it’s way too much to go into here. But suffice to say, This has been a long time coming. One other clip I wanted to play is from the brother of one of the victims, Amy Ayers, her brother Sean, and his wife Angie, who both had great comments to share that weren’t what I’m going to play. What I wanted to play, though, was what I alluded to at the beginning, that when I first heard about this news, when this news broke, late Friday, the media assured us that the families had been informed before the media had been informed. That apparently was not the case. It’s a very powerful press conference in certain ways. In other ways, I found it very awkward and off -putting, mainly because of law enforcement’s attempts at trying to be comprehensive in their presentation, I think. Again, I am very happy as much as one can be in the sense for this possible closure for the families and for law enforcement.

much as one can be in the sense for this possible closure for the families and for law enforcement. This traumatized everyone, including the police investigators and the social workers. And it was a brutal, brutal crime. And the terrible person who committed it. apparently, and many other events that this perpetrator, this serial pedophile rapist murderer committed were just terrible.

just terrible. And unfortunately, he committed suicide in 1999 and so was never brought before the judgment of the victim’s families. As I mentioned, Being the survivor of a mass shooting myself, I’ve, over the years, reported on this kind of thing a lot. And for those of you who have been following me for many years, I co -hosted a paranormal and parapolitical radio show called PsyOp Radio, P -S -I -O -P, like P -S -I, Psy, psychic, PsyOp Radio. decoding the parapolitical machinations within the paranormal and the parapolitical, decoding the psychological warfare machinations. And on that show, we inevitably and increasingly were reporting on these copycat rage mass shootings over and over again. And it really got to be a lot. And unfortunately, as we all can witness, they’ve been on the increase again.

Yeah, so other things in the news related to this, and again, I’m sorry to focus on this, folks, but it’s what’s happening. And there is weird relevance, perhaps, to all the anomalous things that we study. As I mentioned with regard to the yogurt shop murders, there were a number of conspiracy theories that circulated, none of which seemed to have ever panned out, but which fascinated me and others.

abuse perhaps of hypnosis in the attempt to recover memories from possible witnesses is also rampant in this case over the years but there’s been a number of other weird things the past week that all seem to have coalesced into the terrible tragedies that happened over the weekend but yeah so several days ago i guess this now is

so several days ago i guess this now is On September 24th, there was a shooting at Las Vegas’s Nellis Air Force Base main gate. And a lot of the headlines were sensationalistically claiming that the gunman had opened fire at the gate of Area 51. But the gate they’re talking about is in Las Vegas. Area 51 is way away from Las Vegas. I mean, that’s the nearest big city.

Yeah, here’s another one. Of course, it’s the Daily Mail. So yes, sensationalistic much. Gunman opens fire on secretive Air Force Base, home to Area 51. Not exactly accurate, but that’ll get the clicks. Slightly different, but you know how we’ve been reporting on the fears in Austin that there is a serial killer lurking around downtown and dumping. the victims’ bodies into what’s called Lady Bird Lake, Town Lake, Colorado River that runs through Austin. Well, strangely, there now are similar fears in Houston, Texas. Bodies in the bayou, what’s behind the recent spike in deaths? Does Houston have a serial killer problem or just a social media one? This is the headline from over at Cron .com. That’s the Houston Chronicle. Without going into the grisly details, bodies are being found in the runoff and creeks, arroyos, through, I believe, central Houston area. And it’s causing people to wonder, is there a serial killer there? Much like has been the talk here in Austin. However, of course, in Austin, it’s all being written off as being Due to the close proximity of the river, the lake, to the secondary drinking area of the district. You know, there’s 6th Street, often referred to as Dirty 6th in the past. But even closer to the river is the Rainy Street District, which formerly was a small, old Austin neighborhood, but has been taken over by sky rises and bars and clubs. And that seems to be the stomping ground of the serial killer, if there is one. And I’m not saying there is, but that’s what people tend to think, that somebody is drugging a certain demographic of young person in the Rainy Street district and killing them and causing them to then drown in the river. Meanwhile, flashback to several years ago, there apparently was a shooting I had not heard about. And our good friend Tim Banal over at CoastToCoastAM .com reports on, quote, Texas man ordered to pay $2 .8 million to ghost hunters for strange shooting incidents. And the article reads, a trigger -happy Texas man has been ordered to pay a whopping $2 .8 million to a group of would -be ghost hunters whom he shot at in a bizarre incident nearly… five years ago. According to a local media report, the strange encounter at the center of the case occurred on the evening of December 27th, 2020, when a group of seven then teenagers in the city of Raymondville went out to look for an apocryphal haunted location known as the Devil’s Lagoon. Well, they came upon a vehicle in the road.

They came upon a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road, pulled over ostensibly to check on the person, and the gentleman,

not gentle, the perpetrator began opening fire at them. Yeah, over at valleycentral .com, that’s both a CBS and NBC website. Yeah, folks, there’s no… There’s a media monopoly out there in case you’re not aware. Headline, man who shot at teens during Devil’s Lagoon ghost hunt owes victims $2 .8 million. I don’t understand what could have possessed, pardon the pun, this individual to open fire on these teens. Perhaps he thought because of their ethnicity that they were gang members. That’s where my mind went. I haven’t heard the details of the case, but it sounds like it. It must have been a pretty clear cut incident of random violence against these poor teenagers.

But getting back to getting back to the incidents of this weekend, I bring all that up as kind of preface to because part of the copycat effect and my good friend,

back to the incidents of this weekend, I bring all that up as kind of preface to because part of the copycat effect and my good friend, Lauren Coleman, who’s most famous as a cryptozoologist. Bigfoot researcher, et cetera, runs the ICM International Cryptozoology Museum in Maine, is also well known for his research into what’s called Twilight Language or the Copycat Effect or the Werther Effect, this idea of contagious suicidal ideation with violent externalization. And basically people who are mentally unstable.

And suicidal, turning that suicidal ideation outward and killing people, running amok, A -M -O -K. And that is a kind of broad field of discussion when it comes to these kinds of school shootings, mass shootings, rage shootings, workplace shootings. say, gang violence or other types of gun crime. And this has been a point of contention, obviously, amongst various people with views on the Second Amendment. But, of course, over the weekend, there were multiple mass events. Some have said that there were up to five mass shootings this weekend in the United States over the course of two days, 48 hours. depending upon your definition, depending upon what we learn about some of the lesser heard about incidents that may or may not bore out. But this would seem to be a high point in the sense of high numbers of these incidents, a low point, obviously, in our culture. And the one that’s getting the most attention is this Mormon church shooting.

one that’s getting the most attention is this Mormon church shooting. And the other shooting, So there’s the Mormon church shooting in Michigan and the beachside bar shooting in, I believe, Southport, North Carolina. Both of these, I believe, may have anomalous firsts associated with them. And I just bring this up as a researcher into anomalies. I hope, as with these incidents in general, that these incidents go back to being anomalies and cease altogether, honestly. But I just felt it might be important to note some of this. So, of course, I believe it was on Sunday when the Mormon church shooting occurred. And let me just play this first clip. What first caught my attention about this? Accompanied by his black dog or accompanied by a black dog.

So that seems odd. And so I started looking for more information about that. And as I looked, I found that other reference. But that’s the same reporter that we just heard the first one. He’s an ABC News reporter. But it’s a different take, a different clip. And as I searched for any more information on this, it all seems to trace back to one one online news source, but possibly some independent witness. And the mainstream media does not seem to be picking up on this. And I can understand why. You know, we’re obviously focused on the human victims and the church victims. And that is, of course, right and correct. But it just. Caught my attention and here is some of my searches. You can see it. So I searched for accompanied by a black dog and the shooter’s name. And basically what you end up finding are this one dailyvoice .com local news outlet being the source for multiple re -publications on msn .com and some others. This is the Garfield Lodi local news website and buried down in the news article is a reference to the shooter wearing fatigues and accompanied by a black dog. So this, you know, so now most of, of course, the attempts at trying to figure out a motive are focusing on.

Obviously, mental health is the main issue here. Both this shooter and the North Carolina Southport shooter, I believe, are both allegedly military veterans, both allegedly suffering from some forms of PTSD. It’s unclear whether they actually saw combat and what the nature of the cause of their PTSD is. But in the case of this Mormon church shooter, It’s been established at least through some witnesses. A local politician who met him doing door -to -door politicking has come out saying that this gentleman, the shooter, said some things to the effect of that Mormons are the Antichrist. And other friends of his are claiming that he…

Often, though he was a nice person, that he would say inappropriate things about certain groups of people. And it seems like they are speaking to his alleged being anti -Mormon.

anti -Mormon. And he obviously has some history with the Mormon church. But my point is, the reference to the dog is anomalous. It is, of course, not unusual, is in fact considered normal for serial killers and violent people, I think, to be abusive to animals. But this man, there’s this video from a Detroit news outlet titled Friends of Grand Blank Suspect Had Disturbing Encounter with Him Days Before Church Attack. And in the thumbnail for it is one of the people that’s interviewed, this young girl who she and her mother are friends of, were acquaintances or friends of this shooter. They’re the ones, I believe, who said that he spoke unkindly or inappropriately of certain groups. But their strange, disturbing encounter with him was him feigning,

how you say, rushing them with his big truck. And in this thumbnail here, you can see He’s leaning out of the truck that was used, I believe, in this attack. And in the back are the American flags that are seen in the video footage that you’ve probably seen. And in the back of the truck is his black dog coming out the window and being pet by the young lady, the young girl who was witness to the strange encounter where he falsely… He acted as if he was going to run them over with his vehicle, but then made a joke about it. Like, ah -ha -ha, got you. Which really apparently freaked them out and seemed out of character for him, perhaps. But again, there’s the black dog. And yeah, I know, I’m making a mountain out of a molehill, but this may be, if it is true that he took his dog with him. This may be the first time this has ever happened, and that’s all I’m trying to say. Does it matter? No, of course not. I just find it a strange detail. Now, what about the other one, the other incident, the North Carolina Southport boat shooting? Well, that is the anomalous part, the shooting, the drive -by from a boat. I believe was the Oslo, Norway one from many years ago where the shooter boated to an island and then hunted down so many victims. I believe this is the only type of this event I’m aware of where somebody has fired in mass at people at a crowd from a boat. I, again, I just bring all this up just for the fact that these appear to be first -time anomalies with these types of horrific crimes. Okay, I’m going to take a break here. Thank you for sticking with us. I know this is a lot.

Well, there’s a ton, as always. There is a ton of other news that’s much more traditional for our fair. And you can go to flipboard .com slash at anomaly archives and click through and find a ton of links. Among the things that I had wanted to touch on, but I’m just not going to be able to today, folks.

There’s this strange news about the Secret Service dismantling a network of SIM cards, thousands of SIM cards in New York City. that looked like it was being run by either an organized crime syndicate and or some sort of foreign adversary country that would have been able to completely disrupt cellular communications in New York, the New York City area. This is being touted as if it’s in connection to the United Nations meetings.

Nations meetings. And, you know, world leaders arriving and whatnot. But yeah, wow. And I had immediately, it reminded me immediately of a thought that’s related to UFOs. And I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Our good friend Micah Hanks on one of his recent podcasts just briefly alluded to the same exact thing. This idea of overwhelming communications channels. In this case. Through an electromagnetic jamming sort of means by just over, it’s like a denial of service attack on computer internet servers, but with cell servers, cell services. But it reminded Micah and myself independently of the Robertson panel, the infamous CIA sponsored UFO panel, where among other things, it was expressed that it was dangerous, that UFOs. were dangerous in so much as a foreign adversary could use fake UFO reports to overwhelm communication channels as a distraction from some other nefarious activity. Meanwhile, we’ve got these mystery drones over Europe, first over, I guess, what is it? Is it Danish airports? And then now over Spain. Our good friend, RPJ, Red Pill Junkie, a .k .a. Miguel Romero, or Miguel Romero, a .k .a. RPJ. He’s got a good article over at the Daily Grail speculating about the connections between UFOs and drones. And he likens this recent drone wave in Europe to, of course, the recent drone flap in New Jersey and across the United States, especially the ones over our American military bases. But yeah, headlines like mystery drones now spark chaos in Spain as flights diverted from Fuerteventura after days of incursions across Europe. That one’s from thesun .co .uk. And something droning in the state of Denmark, that’s the one by, I guess,

I guess, Miguel Romero over at dailygrail .com. And interestingly, he…

He compares it to the famous ghost rockets, the kind of a pre -modern era UFO event, but post -war pre -modern era where these apparent missiles or cylinder UFOs were being seen over Norway and Sweden and these different areas. And it was presumed to be Russians. Well, just like these drones now are presumed to be Russian. So he calls them ghost drones instead of the ghost rockets. But as always, Miguel has some interesting insights that you might want to check out over there. Some of the other things I wanted to mention are these interesting articles about new Japanese Fugo balloon research. We’ve got those links buried down in there. I’ll put them all in the show notes. There’s some other interesting… Biology news, new hybrid bird discovered outside of San Antonio. This is a green jay and a blue jay have apparently mingled their DNA and had children of a new color. That’s pretty cool.

And all kinds of interesting stuff. Popular Mechanics has a cover article, a whole cover magazine devoted to UFOs, UAP now. They seem to be cashing in.

Up here, I think I have links to this, what’s called the Carolina Crawler. There’s some interesting cryptozoology videos that you should check out. Some from ThinkerThunker and just some very interesting Bigfoot video analysis that I think is actually very worth your time.

some very interesting Bigfoot video analysis that I think is actually very worth your time. The Carolina Crawler 9 -11 incident. Yeah, that’s really fascinating. Is it a hoax? If it is, they involved law enforcement and could probably get in trouble for that. But this event happened several years ago or a few years ago and is only now getting some better attention. But you may want to check that out. It all seems to center around this classic cryptid that emerged around 2005, 2006 after the movie The Descent. was released and online communities started creating this creature, this thin, gaunt, pale creature called a rake, R -A -K -E, and that is very reminiscent of the things the weird underground feral humans encountered in the movie The Descent. Anyway, I’m not going to spoil this story. It’s wild. Meanwhile, there’s also links to some great free online publications on the paranormal and UFOs, etc. that I think you’ll want to check out. Again, the links will be in the show notes for tonight’s episode. And there’s a Fantastic Fest interview. Fantastic Fest is a film festival put on by the Austin’s own Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. It’s been going on for decades now. It’s fantastic. It’s the Fantastic Fest, but it’s… It’s great content. And there’s a documentary that’s been long, desire long in the making called When We Were Live. And it’s all about ACTV, ACAC, Austin Community Access Television. Again, we’ll have links to all of that in the show notes. So I’m going to try to wrap this up. I know this has been a very different episode than normal, folks. I apologize. But these, as I say, have been important. in Austin’s history with the apparent resolution of the yogurt shop murders from 34 years ago, 1991, I guess.

You know, I mentioned watching city council twice in a week’s time. Well, I’ll save that other time for after this. But in the spirit of UFO stuff, So I guess it was just over a year, I guess two years ago, a year and a half ago, the 1990s,

the classic TV series, Northern Exposure, that caught a lot of people’s imagination because of its quirkiness and it’s often dealing with philosophical issues and sometimes seemingly paranormal issues and synchronicities and dreams and strange, weird events.

There was an episode that aired, I think, in March of 1993 in their fourth season that may be the only time or one of the few times they ever specifically dealt with UFOs. And as I’ve been making my way through the back catalog of these old Northern Exposure episodes, I came across this and thought I’d share. Let’s see if I can. There’s two clips. They’re each about a minute and a half or two minutes. So for those not familiar,

the character wearing the NASA ball cap is a former astronaut. And it’s kind of like the patron ruler of the town. Very old school, very conservative. Maurice Minifield, I believe is his name. And he’s… Very upset by the appearance of this homeless man in their town. There’s no homeless in this Alaska town. It’s too cold for homeless people, right? Well, he finds out that the homeless man is a veteran, a military veteran, which, of course, endears him to him. And that’s the scene where he finds out that… Why did this man become homeless?

the scene where he finds out that… Why did this man become homeless? Because he saw UFOs. He saw lights. And then there’s a second clip. There’s a second part later on.

Yeah, that’s Maurice for you. He’s like, when the weird stuff happens, just forget about it. When something that bizarre happens, forget about it or it’ll ruin your life. Well, that’s kind of the storyline is that this… unfortunate person became homeless because they let it get to them i i offer that as part of our cargo culture fair use educational purposes reminiscing about some of the popular portrayals of ufo related stuff all right that’s gonna that’s gonna do it folks well i did have so i mentioned having watched the Austin city council twice, twice in one week before or not. Well, within seven days of each other. This this Monday, of course, was the press conference about the break in the yogurt shop murders. But last week I became aware of some city council possible shenanigans.

council possible shenanigans. Basically. There’s often been fights in Austin and controversy over the use of certain surveillance technologies here in town. And there appears to be a push to implement AI -enabled surveillance cameras either across town or in certain parks because of break -ins and parking lots or something like that. I’ve only become aware of this through a particular YouTube channel. That is by a Austinite who is a right to repair activist. And if you don’t know what that is, look, look it up. But this person made the public and his followers aware of the city council seemingly putting on the agenda a month ago to discuss this and then pulling it from the agenda. Allegedly, like the day. It was scheduled without a full day’s notification. And of course, it’s really hard for the average person to find the time in their busy workday to take off from work and go and speak as a public citizen. And so some find it very inappropriate for city councils to make such seeming apparently, allegedly very short notice changes to. The ability for public citizens to speak on an issue on such short notice, especially when they when city council can expect that it’s going to be a controversial issue. And I’m not I’m not promoting any side on this. I have my own feelings and opinions. But all that said, I tuned in to watch the proceedings and I was not disappointed. There were some very creative forms of what I consider. appropriate citizen attempts to get their voices heard in the absence of a venue to do so. I’m not going to play any of that, but I just I’ll say as much as there’s a lot of different feelings about Austin’s mayor, Kirk Watson, who has been mayor multiple times over a long over a quarter century, as we saw from his comments at the yogurt shop murder. press conference. He was referring back to when he was mayor the previous time, 25 years ago, and was saying things about those crimes. Well, whatever you think of him, he does have a sense of humor. And this is something he had to say, and this is what we’re going to end with tonight. So this was something he had to say at the beginning of that last week’s city council meeting that I was just… where he’s anticipating a number of protests, so to speak, or people speaking out of turn.

All right. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you indeed. All right. That’s going to be it. Good night, everybody. Thank you for tuning in.
